animal control came and said to get rid of my chickens!

Oh, I forgot to say. I wasn't able to get online to you guys until now. Comcast is messed up for some reason. The amount of money you pay for their service, you'd think it would be better, huh?

I mean, this happens all the time, or at least it seems that way.

I guess my response is that you should have gone at your first opportunity. Ignoring Code Compliance doesn't make it go away, but can cause your request for a variance to be considered unimportant to you, which will in turn give it less importance to your councilmen/commissioners.

I understand where you're coming from. I thought that also, but the hubby said we should wait it out, because we haven't had any trouble for a while now. I'd have liked to have gone, and got it over with myself. One of the ACO said to me, to just move them to the other side. Also said, if I'm here, put them in the house, what I don't see, I don't know about. All I can say is, I'm certainly going to this next meeting and see the response I do get from my girls and such.

I despise trouble makers, and nosey people are always trouble. Keep your girls and tell Animal Control to take a flying leap.

I thought you had been keeping the girls in your house? so what kinda of complaints would you be getting. i think you should have gone to the first meeting not put it off.

Yes, to the OP statement, I have been keeping them inside. Around 4:00 in the afternoon, I let them out on the other side of our yard oposite of his back yard. They get to scratch and look for bugs, and enjoy a little outdoor time. They seem quite happy. I'm just the one for all the clean up afterwards!

That's pretty creepy about your neighbor looking over your fence all the time… sounds like borderline stalking or "peeping tom" behavior. Don't know about dogs, but here if you spray another person with a hose they can charge you with assault. Chickens and dog aside, if he lived next to me and peeked over all the time at my family, I'd be calling the authorities. Maybe you can get the local deputy to take care of Mr. Nosy before you bring home any peeps- you also might want to check your ordinances regarding keeping chickens just to see how much trouble he could cause you, or keep them on the other side of your house away from him in a "stealth coop." I hate to hear about people losing their birds because of bad neighbors.

Time for a hotwire across the top o the fence.... you know, to keep cats and other irritating creatures off of it...
