Announcing A Brand New Buy Sell Auction System!

I think the number of auctions allowed is too low. I loved the old system.
That is part of what makes BYC different and addicting. There is always something new to look at or look for.
This will restrict that so much that I guess I will finally get all the work around here done that I have been putting off.
I think you need to rethink and tweak. I am not sure who you are getting your feedback from but it seems to me that the majority of people want more auctions allowed.

getting more work done that does sound good, My house might need BYC to change

Whenever I did sell stuff, The item was Mine, (unless my bro asked me to post something for him, like his laptop) and if someone bought it I let my brother handle the paypal and such. All I did was have the item and post it. Is this allowed?

From a Buyer's perspective, hopefully this will drive more Sellers to read the WTB's before using their auction allotments. Maybe the WTB's can someday be split between eggs, birds, and all other items to make it easier for the sellers to find perspective buyers. I wish there was a way to search the the auctions by breed, rather than having to search all the BYC threads. Or see at a glance all the auctions a Seller has listed, in case you want to combine some shipping. And it would be nice to see when the auctions are ending, rather than having to open every listing. And how do we keep track of all the auctions we are interested in? Or all the auctions we are bidding on? Is everything now in auction format, or is there a Buy It Now option (maybe I missed it). And is the bidding available by Proxy format? And if I understand the threads, can we PM the Seller, negotiate the sale outside the auction format if there are no bids, and then they can cancel the auction early and not get a hit against their allotment? Just a few thoughts from a buyer as you work out all the kinks. Thanx for listening.

Good morning from the farm. It's 6:08 am in the morning and I'm still confused, but it's probably the lack of coffee and sleep.

A couple of requests from a little retired lady in GA, I don't know of anyone making a fortune on sales of chickens or eggs so please on behalf of myself or my colleagues who have 10 sales or more a month before statements like we're rolling in the dough, know our feed bills, electricity of incubator, heaters, and construction of the pens.....I'm afraid to know the whole picture, but just learned that our feed bill is well over $350 a month....Yup I said $350. Well, I knew I'd been pinching a lot of pennies. We don't run air conditioning or heat in our house....those utilities go to the poultry. Since we have had poultry, our utilities are up over $150 a month. We have a small donated wood stove and many blankets and windows to fight the heat. Mostly at the end of our 14 and 18 hour days, we just fall asleep when we sit down. We love our poultry. The sales we get on BYC help this farm so much. Our husband and I fulltime farm..It's the hardest and lowest paying but happiest job I've ever had. Since we are chemical free farmers, the reason, I'm allowed poultry, goats, burro and bunnies as their farm manure which goes to compost which goes to the garden.

We didn't decide to full time farm to get rich. Part of my too early retirement check of $600 goes to the feed mill every week - a large part, the other to the utility company and then that's it! Well, on good months there's $10 or so extra. But still I feel so rich, surrounded by clean country air and the love of my animals, neighbors, friends on BYC who understand my animal love and being with an adoring hubbie.

I've cherished the many times that I've been able to explain to people how to care for their eggs, chicks, guineas, turkeys or whatever - smile...and continue to help them via phone, e mail, in person, etc. AND importantly refer them here to this wonderful fount of knowledge and also recently to the great new dummies book. It's part of my desire to leave a mark on this world that I've made a difference in some ones life. That I've been able to share their excitement about the miracle of the first egg, or the hatch, etc. that's my rolling in the dough.
My husband has been indulgent in his time to build cages and feed and water when in the last year, I came down with pneumonia, had appendectomy, etc. What a jewel.

I say all this to simply say,But please no more bashing you all on the "rolling in the dough" we make if we make 10 or more sales. In terms of supporting BYC, I'm not patting my back here but sharing, I've contributed to almost all the forums, held giveaway contest(s) - I think only 2 but also shared free eggs and poultry with individuals here..I've referred buyers to others selling here as well...I have referred so many people to BYC, that have stopped by our farm, called us for information, etc. I hope I've made some chicken book sales as well. Sometimes, I never do know, but sometimes folks see me later or call or pm or email and say hi.

I've really enjoyed and anticipate being with BYC for a very long time, God willing and the creek don't rise (which it certainly did 2 weeks ago in Georgia, resulting in deaths and massive destruction). I've made wonderful friends and learned and had fun here and I want that to continue and I anticipate that continuing.

I know that the change is stressful, because at my age, all change can be a challenge.

For those that think this change will make them do other things, please read my post under ramblings about you know it's time to clean house when....it's gone bizarre. You BYC'ers are so funny!

my prayer for the day is to let the peace and Joy return to the board and no more bashing of the "power sellers"...From reading this post, I hope I've give you a small insight of one power seller, HA....

Well, the animals await and so I must dash out the door.

Love and hugs to all BYC members. I'm praying for each of you and the changes on this Board and if I can ever help anyone of you, please ask and I'll certainly do all within my ability.

Have a happy and blessed day.

Edited for too many typos...sorry . smile

Well said!!!! I wonder if there are very few people who sell over 10 things a month right now, but lots of people who hope to sell a lot more than that in the future? I know when I am working on the breeders list that some people have almost as many breeds that will start laying next year as they already have. I can afford the gfm and probably will buy one soon. I do not mind purchasing one too much because I would like to support the forum as I always have before.
shelley said earlier that she thought it was going to be 2 a week for normal members and 4 a week for gfms. That to me sounds a lot more reasonable. I imagine a lot of it is that is is just hard to adjust after having unlimited sales for free to have limited auctions and pay for them. It is still reasonable it is your sight and you van do whatever you want. It does seem to me that you might, if you want to please everyone, raise the limit just a little.

In a way it does seem to me that the majority of the people are wanting a higher limit. If you need more money for the management of the site why not just say so instead of changing the system?

Nifty has already done a study which shows the huge majority of people (over 98% I think?) that post auctions use less than 10 per month. The figure wasn't just pulled out of his hat. So no, its not the majority that want more than 10 auctions. And as far as it losing its "personal-ness", if you look at one of the auctions posted, the only thing different is you bid at the top of the thread, not in the body of the thread. Which actually makes it far easier to follow. You can chat on the thread until the cows come home, and yet anyone interested in the item won't have to scan all the chatter to find the bid; its right on top.

If you'd actually give it a chance before deciding you hate it, you might find that its actually pretty spiffy.

Okay I got to page 13 and am running out of time. We have a website and an ebay store. We sell horse embroidered shirts, hoodies, towels and blankets.

We put many hours into our ME page where we have pages (tabs) for teh different designs like english horses, bays, arabians, greys, draft etc.

Dh read about this yesterday and is gung ho to list here. He SAYS we can link to our ME page so people can choose the design they want.

So I guess i will need a golden feather membership.I just want to be sure I can :
1) link to this page so people can chose the design THEY wish and
2)Can I have a listing for hoody in size/color/design they want and then another listing for tee of size/color/design they wish and finally a 3rd listiing for say a set of towels in color/design they wish?

If I can do that then I can try the site here and see how much interest there is before paying for a GF membership,If all sell within a week you know you need to get a membership.

Thanks for your time, I hope I am clear with my questions.

What your still missing on that many use less than 10 is still the same.MANY of us list several in one post with this auction system it won't allow us to list 5 chicks 2 weeks old of breed #1 2 of another 5 pullets 3 roosters you get the idea.$20 is fine IF we are allowed to sell what we have for sale.11 auctions isn't exactly a Power Seller rolling in chickendough...it's a small back yard or small farm that has chicks and some chickens offered for sale. Why should I pay $20 and have my hands tied on what is "excessive"
All they had to do was remove the chat reply button and leave it alone.
And I DO look at the WTB section I'm sure I'm not the only one.
