I couldn't agree more....and follow the same theory...and I think many many others do too. After being given the link to this thread, reading entire thread, careful consideration, fretting over usage & diluting ovate system.... I have decided to use them as I see fit. Not ration them. Use daily allowance if I feel the need. I understand the reputation inspired by program. And until there is a "like" button, I will use the ovate option. When I find something particularly funny and a smile is what I came to site looking for.....then that comment gets an ovate from me. Or if I really like a pic, contest entry, comment or anything. I want to use my ovate button.
Trying to "judge" the use of the ovate button would be like throwing stones. I think until there is a "like" system, the reputation system will be an integrated like/reputation type system.
I thought of turning it off. But think it's purposes are positive. Just don't be judgemental on usage.![]()
Reputation is important, I meant that the ovation system is a poor metric for it.I do care about the reputation theory. It is vital. But if one is looking for reputation, then hopefully a lot more is considered. And there is loads of info/intel on each person active on site.

Thank you for commenting.
Is there an easy way to acknowledge / reply to someone who gives you an ovation?
