Global warming has been going on for at least the last 10,000 years. It really isn't anything new folks. Not worth an award anyway.

The planet has definately been warming up as of late. I won't argue with that. What I will do, however, is question whether this is a long-term one-way trend caused by human activity, as many claim, or simply a cyclical fluctuation.

I am old enough to remember that during the mid-70's energy crisis, the planet was observed to be cooling. All that polution was keeping the sun's rays from reaching the earth, and another ice age was inevitable. Unless we did something drastic, Minnesota would be buried under a mile of ice.

Thirty years later, that same polution is causing the greenhouse effect, trapping heat, and Florida will soon be under 15 feet of water.

I'm a tad skeptical over the "cause and effect" speculation, given all the arguments that "pollution" was causing both cooling and warming, depending on which decade you look at, and what the thermometer was saying at the time.

But he had not DONE this...... that is like saying to some kid at school; here is your degree because you show promise without having done any of the work to obtain this degree.....

Nuclear wepons are still out there, he has not removed any of them yet.

Why is it that the eyes of the people view what they wish and resolve to ignore the facts? the fact is he has not accomplished diddley at home or abroad.Back to you !

Gore didn't win last year. He won in 2007.

Still doesn't change the fact that he beat out a woman who risked her life to save others.

There's no such thing as a "Noble Peace Prize Nominee" as the Nobel committee don't officially release the names of other people they considered.

They did release this woman's name as one of those that they had considered or at least had been forward for their consideration.

I can't remember her name. Perhaps someone else does though.

For some odd reason, I couldn't seperate out the quotes. So, I bolded my response above. I don't want CMjust to think that I am yelling at him/her.

Well- I'm a geologist. Everyone should see the movie, but that isn't why Gore won. He has been working on climate change for DECADES! Doesn't anyone read/watch any news besides Fox ?

The Nobel Prize isn't about republican/democrat political bickering. This is about the WORLD, and PEACE and HOPE and MOVING FORWARD.

My dissapointment has nothing to do with democrat/republican bickering. It has to do with Standards and Integrity.

I want to see/read what Obama has done (actually accomplished - not what he is "gonna do") to earn that award. Remember - he was nominated 2 weeks into his administration.....

I can think of a few other people who might be better suited to have won this than President Obama.

meri

I think that is the most well put post and I want to say DITTO! Well said

Very disappointed and I think it takes the prestige away from the award to have such weak reasoning. He may well deserve it in two years or four years but to get it just because he was elected president

Amazing how the scientific community changes as fast as the wind changes direction isn't it?I too remember the new ice age theory and none of the evidence has been gathered and studied long enough to prove anything! That is if you believe the earth is as old as they say it is! As for globally the average temp has dropped in the last two years as from what I have read about the subject.

Wow, I'm beginning to feel over- educated.

I guess I'll go back to the genetics forum so I can feel dumb again.

So much for patriotism!
