The planet has definately been warming up as of late. I won't argue with that. What I will do, however, is question whether this is a long-term one-way trend caused by human activity, as many claim, or simply a cyclical fluctuation.
I am old enough to remember that during the mid-70's energy crisis, the planet was observed to be cooling. All that polution was keeping the sun's rays from reaching the earth, and another ice age was inevitable. Unless we did something drastic, Minnesota would be buried under a mile of ice.
Thirty years later, that same polution is causing the greenhouse effect, trapping heat, and Florida will soon be under 15 feet of water.
I'm a tad skeptical over the "cause and effect" speculation, given all the arguments that "pollution" was causing both cooling and warming, depending on which decade you look at, and what the thermometer was saying at the time.
Amazing how the scientific community changes as fast as the wind changes direction isn't it?I too remember the new ice age theory and none of the evidence has been gathered and studied long enough to prove anything! That is if you believe the earth is as old as they say it is! As for globally the average temp has dropped in the last two years as from what I have read about the subject.
