Another USPS rant!

That is one reason I will never order live chicks. Just the thought of it turns my stomach. Last year TSC had a box with 200 chicks all die because of USPS. How did the rude lady put it "We don't have to call you when the box comes in!" That's just a courtsey. Whatever...

I have a wonderful PO and mail lady and have never had a problem with them!!

I have had a few issues but imagine the service you are getting for such a small fee.

I've never had good service. At my last house, the mail was always a week or two behind. Within a few months of moving in, I had switched everything to online so I wouldn't be late. My bills would come in a week after they were due and the mail I sent out either was late or never got there. Where I am at now, if the package won't fit in the box, it doesn't get delivered. I started ordering everything shipped through Fedex or UPS, but a lot of UPS stuff gets dropped at the post office. The postman drops a card in the box since he wont deliver. Then I have wait until the next day and drive 30 minutes to go pick it up. I order my coffee from Gevalia and sometimes I'll find the box of coffee in the ditch. The USPS here is awful

I LOVE my USPS office, they are great. With that said, if my "big" dogs are out, they honk their horn for me to come out. My little dog they ignore. Big dogs, nice, little dog HATES delivery people. I ordered something to be delivered by UPS, I got a notice from UPS that they took it to my local USPS to be delivered!! UPS couldn't make it up my gravel road, but yet my local post office maillady could. I had 25 chicks delivered, Post Office called me at 5:00 am to pick them up. They were just fine! I realize that I am very fortunate to have great service from my local post office!

Update to my rant: (still no bird that I shipped Tuesday):

I sent this email to the Postmaster General:

Hello, this is in reference to the LIVE BIRD lost in the mail that I sent on Tuesday 10/11 at 2pm from MD 21727 to AR 72701, tracking # EM 191815337 US. Somehow your idiots have managed to lose this box with a live bird in it who is most likely dead now. I am sure you will be able to locate this box once the dead bird starts to decompose & stink. WTH??? What is wrong with the postal system?? In my opinion, everything. The USPS is chock full of incompetent, lazy fools who place no value on the mail or live animals! As you can tell I am just livid about this! This is not the first time this has happened to me. It has happened many times to other people as well, as I am a member of an online poultry forum and am constantly seeing posts there about this very thing happening all over the country. There is no excuse for this reckless irresponsibility and blatant disregard for the mail. USPS had much better service 20 years ago. What happened to customer service? If this is the way you treat the mail, you need to change the name from USPS to United Stated Postal Incompetence! I demand a full refund for the shipping, box and bird! That would be $51.00, as it was insured up to $100. And by the way, why do I have to pay so much for Express Mail when it takes even longer than Parcel Post? This is highway robbery. I can only hope you will do what you can to rectify this horrible situation and to prevent this from happening in the future. I have lost all trust and respect for the USPS.

OUCH. If I were you, I wouldn't count on getting any important mail from now on. Maybe make sure any bills could be paid online.
I totally agree with you, but I'm sure there's someone that will take their incompetence out on you.
I hate USPS also.

The bird has still not been found or scanned!! WTH??

Man! That is bad! The poor bird...

I finally got my 2nd package of eggs today....7 days after it was mailed. After it arrived at our local distribution center, it got sent out to the wrong post office on Saturday. They "found" it (I don't know where it went), got it back to the dist. center and then to my local post office this morning. The box was a little smashed on one corner, but all eggs wrapped well and intact. I've got them "resting" and will hopefully get in the incubator this evening. I hope I can get a few chicks out of this 10-egg order. We'll see....
I stand by my belief that the problem is usually in these large distribution centers and not at the local post offices. I know that the local workers here in Lindale, TX were very sympathetic but had no control over what was going on elsewhere up the line. This was my first time buying shipped eggs and have been very disappointed in the mail service. I just wish there were an alternative.

UPS and Fedex would lose live animals too...if they were even willing to ship them, which they are not.

People that bash the USPS dont realize how crappy it would be if it went away and you had to rely on private carriers. $0.44 to mail a letter? Nope, try $12. Same with mailing Christmas presents and other packages. USPS is by far the best value out there and they are the only carrier for live animals.

Also, for everyone that complains on this board about losing a bird, there are likely hundreds to thousands that never have an issue with it.

UPS couldn't make it up my gravel road, but yet my local post office maillady could

Its not so much that they couldn't but they simply wouldnt. Its one of their standard policies. Its a way for UPS and Fedex stay profitable by piggybacking off of the USPS for rural deliveries.
