We have a bunch of deer that cone through our property. A herd of 8 - 6 does, 2 babies (one really nice for in there, the others are pretty young). A group that's just s doe and two babies and another herd that has a couple young bucks and a bunch of young does.

DH shot an 8-pointer here last year but we haven't seen anything of that size this year.

Seen a few--can't wait to get out in the woods myself--me and my husband and son are looking forward to getting out to hunt and some fresh deer meat...YUM!!

This will be my third year hunting, (im only 16

) and the only thing i've seen while hunting, is a small spike, and a doe, when i only had a gun ._. it seems like i don't see deer when im hunting, only when im on the road and about to hit one!! darn things. me and my mom, while we were on our way home, going about 35mph, saw a HUGE buck, all in velvet, it had to be at least 8 points. i called dibs! haha xD my ma said that if i get a buck over 8 points, she will have it mounted

, she'll pay nd everything. my dad got a big buck many years ago, and he says that he lets the bucks he sees while hunting go, and wait till next year for it to get bigger! my mom gets irritated, cuz we all love venison! xD

Hello all! Good to see all of these hunters! I have a while until our season, but I can't wait. This year has been a mixed blessing. The field behind our house is leased and has been used for hay the last few years. This year there is corn in there. That means more deer in the area, but I CAN'T SEE THEM!

Well, I got two during bow season last year, so I hope to do as well this year. Venison and fresh eggs. What more could you need? Now, I just have to start making my own cheese!!

You'll get that buck of your dreams some day. Perhaps more than one. They are all special! Make sure you talk to everyone you find that is a "successful" hunter. Listen to them and learn from them. Watch all of the videos you can from professionsals like the Drury Bros., Primos, etc. Watch how deer act and react. Being a successful hunter is a learning process. Sounds as though you are off to a great start!

So do y'all process it yourselves or take it somewhere?

I was not impressed with our processor the last 2 years. The ground venison was VERY bloody and gamey as a result. The rest was ok but I don't think we got our entire deer back. It dressed at 140 something and we only got back 2 paper bags full of meat...

They used to only have shotgun with slugs here, and this is the 3rd year that rifle is allowed. I grew up in rifle country so its very weird to me that my DH is still learning how to hunt with a rifle.

We process ourselves, its not worth the cost of processing for the amount of meat on a whitetail. We dont grind anything unless we have to, we cut steaks and all the odds n ends go to jerky.
