Any fellow Geocachers?

Scrambled, I did the same! I am Chicken of the Earth! I'm reading reading reading and plan to find a few before I make my own. I found chicken beads at Oriental Trading Co. that might be good to trade in the caches.
Jossane, you could explain away on here and it wouldn't matter! LOL, it's the kind of thing I have to do to figure out if you know what I mean. DH and I will have to sit down with it.
I think this should be an ongoing thread, especially since I'm the one that almost killed it off!

I have a travel bug that I picked up a while back. I haven't found a large enough cache to put it in close to me, unless I put back in the same one I found it in. Do you think it would be alright if I sent it along with one of the byc mascots if I don't find another cache to stick it in before we host a mascot?

Uh, got me started again! You didnt kill the thread! I watch it all the time, eagerly awaiting the next post, just needed a push

About the travel bug, Please send it on! We love to see our travel bugs move, and sometimes people take them and they are lost forever - it's nice to know when they're on the move again! My Big Sweetie seems stuck in Ventura for now....My husbands Four Wheel Drive Pickup is a travel bug. It has a huge travel bug sticker - we have the hard copies and tags - and once it's activated, you can log it as a find when you spot it!

We love geocaching, but we have so many hobbies, we dont always have a chance to just go caching. We have to wait for new ones in our area too. Since it's a part time hobby, we only have about 453 finds so far. My kids are the "littles" and they are super cachers - they dont use a GPS, I just take them to an area, tell them a bit about the cache sometimes, and they can find just about anything. Geocaching takes us to places we may not have taken the time to stop at before, we have seen so much more even in town, on our trails, in our parks, etc....it has opened up a whole new world and its awesome for the kids. They love to trade "swag" and talk about their littles prizes like they're gold.
We started out using a Magellan Explorist 210 - Its basic enough that you can understand it - you use Mapsend software and a usb cable and you can download everything you need. If a person can figure out how to use smilies, post pics, etc on BYC, they can get a Magellan Explorist 210 to work. It can hold up to 250 caches on a list, with hints but no description, then you follow the map, it will tell you when you're within so many feet of the cache, sometimes down to zero, and you can even log that you found it in the GPS....Its a reasonably easy to use GPS, good features and run about $110, maybe on Ebay.....
We have Magellans and Garmins - just ask if you want an opinion, my DH is techno and very helpful! Right now we play with a Magellan Triton 500 - seriously new and pretty, but like all new technology, it has bugs...we like it though. When I go alone with the boys though - I use the Magellan 210.

I wouldn't send the travel bug with a mascot unless it goes to a cacher. If you want, send it to me and I can place it here in one of our huge local travel bug hotels.
I warned you, it's addicting.
Go on Ebay and get a Magellen Sportrac Pro, it's the best!! I have two of them.

Just take your family with you, they'll get hooked too. It's a blast, and I'm excited that you've found yet another way to fill up your spare time!

At first I was sort of thinking that too but they are such absolutely different things that I don't think that would work anymore. Having something in your mailbox to have fun with is different than the effort of plotting and planning to go out and find something..different sort of folks for the most part. I think we can promote the ideas, the geocaching and the mascots for each other but maybe not marry them.

Ya'll know anything on the site you support you can put the link in your signature line? See mine...where ever I go on the forum people see those 4 areas and can just click on them if interested! Seems to help with those interestes so maybe ya'll want to put this thread as a link and title it something catchy like Chicken Geocaching or whatever..you cna only do 4 lines in your sig so I'll swap out one of my lines for this too when I get my cache made!!

I ordered a little silver geocache tube thingy and I when it gets here I will put some chicken beads in it and a teeny sign in log and the BackYardChickens.com address and a co-worker is gonna hide it in a park and set the coordinates for me so I can post them on the geocaching.com site!!!! Very excited about it!!!! Whooo Hooo!!! Got him and his fiancee all excited about the new treasure hunting hobby too!!!

It's always great to see people excited about geocaching. My Mum called me over the weekend to tell me she has now found more caches than my family. Pretty funny since we got her hooked.
