Uh, got me started again! You didnt kill the thread! I watch it all the time, eagerly awaiting the next post, just needed a push
About the travel bug, Please send it on! We love to see our travel bugs move, and sometimes people take them and they are lost forever - it's nice to know when they're on the move again! My Big Sweetie seems stuck in Ventura for now....My husbands Four Wheel Drive Pickup is a travel bug. It has a huge travel bug sticker - we have the hard copies and tags - and once it's activated, you can log it as a find when you spot it!
We love geocaching, but we have so many hobbies, we dont always have a chance to just go caching. We have to wait for new ones in our area too. Since it's a part time hobby, we only have about 453 finds so far. My kids are the "littles" and they are super cachers - they dont use a GPS, I just take them to an area, tell them a bit about the cache sometimes, and they can find just about anything. Geocaching takes us to places we may not have taken the time to stop at before, we have seen so much more even in town, on our trails, in our parks, etc....it has opened up a whole new world and its awesome for the kids. They love to trade "swag" and talk about their littles prizes like they're gold.
We started out using a Magellan Explorist 210 - Its basic enough that you can understand it - you use Mapsend software and a usb cable and you can download everything you need. If a person can figure out how to use smilies, post pics, etc on BYC, they can get a Magellan Explorist 210 to work. It can hold up to 250 caches on a list, with hints but no description, then you follow the map, it will tell you when you're within so many feet of the cache, sometimes down to zero, and you can even log that you found it in the GPS....Its a reasonably easy to use GPS, good features and run about $110, maybe on
Ebay.....
We have Magellans and Garmins - just ask if you want an opinion, my DH is techno and very helpful! Right now we play with a Magellan Triton 500 - seriously new and pretty, but like all new technology, it has bugs...we like it though. When I go alone with the boys though - I use the Magellan 210.
