Any fellow Geocachers?

Well I nearly flipped out when I put my zip code in on the site and realized there are already 4 hidden caches within 1 mile of my house!!!!! WOW!!

You know, you can use almost any water tight container for a cache.
Some use Tupperware, or plastic cat litter jugs even. Most of mine are ammo cans, but I have one called Plain or Peanuts that is in a metal M&M I got full of candy for Christmas.

I PM'ed you, but yes we do a lot of geocaching with the family and our boys absolutely love it and its a great way to find cool new places!

I have a letterboxing account I opened when I accidently found a letterbox in Alamogordo, it was less than 2 feet away from the cache I was after! I need to get going on those!

Inexpensive is one of the BIG reasons my entire family loves geocaching. We find several caches close by so we can do them all in a short driving distance. I've got a bag specifically for geocaching....swag items, sunscreen, bug spray, bandaids, extra pens and small notebook incase the cache we find needs a new one and most importantly an extra set of batteries for the GPS. I usually pack a lunch/snacks and drinks.

We're so busy on our treasure hunts it doesn't seem like "exercise" and we've discovered so great areas close to home we never knew about.

Start saving your swag ( swap ) items now. I pick up inexpensive keychains, toys, pins etc on sale and clearance. My local Post Office recently had a clearance bin full of hat pins, fridge magnets and keychains for 50 cents each. You know the ones they sell that are usually $5 each. I bought every one they had. Then had the fun of explaining to the PO lady about geocaching.

LOL, my PO lady already thinks I'm nuts!! Between egg shipments and the Letterboxing postal ring with a Webkinz theme nothing would surprise her anymore. And I've never even had chicks delivered to me~they've always been part of someone else's order.
I at least got inspired to get back out "boxing" even if I haven't tried to find a geocache yet. I planted a new box and found 3 last week. Maybe a geocache this weekend. There seems to be quite a few around here too. We have tons of letterboxes so I'm not surprised.

Wow,, I'm so glad to see so many people interested. The biggest expense will be your GPS, but if you on Ebay or check Pawn Shops there are a lot available for little money. I know several people have mentioned Garmin, but I have found Magellan to be a more accurate GPS. I use the Sportrac Pro, it's an older model but the newer ones just can't beat it, unless you have the big bucks to spend on one don't worry about it. I'm looking forward to seeing all the different posts on Geocaching.com.
My Geocaching name is: WriterofWords, I tend to use it a lot.
