Hi Blond006, JoAnn and I moved into HPP a year ago and built a coop for our 16 chickens on posts that we use sand to help make the cleaning easier. We have tried the black and the coral sand and have settled on black. One, it's a dollar or so cheaper per bag, but moreover it makes the time between cleanings a bit more visually appealing because it hides the poop better than the whiter coral sand. I do not know if the chickens like one color over the other as they seem to not care much. We only use enough sand to dust coat the linoleum we laid down to make the coop easy to disinfect. The light sand covering keeps the manure from sticking so it can be raked out faster. Under the roost areas we use both sand and drag out poop trays. For an 8' x 8' coop we use half a bag of sand(about 20 pounds or so) and it comes out about 1/4" to 1/2" deep. Good luck with your build and don't forget to share photos!
