    Thanks @Zeil

I prefer muffins or cobblers for baking - cause time is short right now.

But thinking about canning some as jam.

But open to new ideas [IMG]

Actually from what I remember beer bread is that easy.

I've never made it,but it was a favorite of my uncles.

From what I understand beer already contains sugar and yeast so it comes out pretty much the same as prepared sour dough starter and just needs to be warmed and have flour mixed in. Pretty sure my uncle cooked it in a dutch oven too probably from a wet dough.

I imagine it tastes similar to a new sourdough... although I don't actually remember.

Way to go on the blueberries @sunflour , that's quite a nice haul to enjoy!

The blueberry pie was wonderful...in fact so good, I made it 3 times. We've really enjoyed Ron's yeast pancake recipe with our blueberries. And I bet your cobbler dish would be wonderful with the berries in place of the peaches.

Speaking of peaches...when can I start to look for some of those Georgia peaches? Hope I haven't missed them yet.

I think it sounds like a fun one to try sometime.

Way back in the Jurassic, when I was first married, my husband and I would make a wet/runny beer batter, dip vegetables in it and fry them like tempura.
Then I decided grease was bad.
We eat them raw now and drink the beer... or he does, beer is meh.

We rarely have beer around either but fortunately, it's sold by the can (at least it was where I used to live). Maybe I should make wine bread instead...hmm, might not be quite the same [IMG]

You'd need the bubbles. Champagne bread?

Hands down the best versatile muffin recipe I have ever used...

    http://www.simplebites.net/how-to-make-the-best-muffins/

She also has great baking tips. I add a little more milk, tablespoons or so and just be careful when soaking the oats or tripling the batter, it can go chewy, which whilst still nice, is nothing to wtire home about.

I don't think enough people are making this...

    http://www.theyummylife.com/Slow_Cooker_Apple_Cinnamon_Oatmeal

I turned it off, added frown blueberries and almonds, showered and when I returned... the best bowl of oats I've ever had, again though I used more milk. Do add a little water though even if it's not your custom, as I find steel cut oats go a bit chewy with just milk.

Also if your desperately trying to be healthier in your snacking...

I have yet to make anything off of her website that didn't magically evaporate in about 10 seconds... although her blueberry cheesecake muffins are something else entirely....

These are exceptionally nice with blueberries, although our were fresh...

And now I suddenly want to make sour berry crumble....

It was a fixture at family barbeques, so I imagine it was popular, my English mother though hated it on principal. she use to call it the same thing people call cheap beer, only with bread on the end.

I did post a reply with recipes sunflour, I think due to the high number of links its gone to be moderated, if it doesn't wash up in a few hours though I'll repost.
