I never had a problem with the caramel slipping off. I washed and dried the apples. Used the Kraft caramel recipe. And I like them rolled in chopped peanuts. Mmmm.

This is my 1st year buying farmers market apples, so maybe there'll be a difference this year. I hadn't thought about the yucky wax coating, but that makes a lot of sense.
Hope the ones you got were really from the farmers and if so, there is quite a difference in the apple skin.

I'm jealous of all who have already gotten their apples this year, I prefer Cameo's and they are coming in a little late in North GA - but called my source and they should have them next weekend

so getting my canner and jars dusted off and ready. And will be making some southern fried apple pies!

I'll have to look that one up. Back in the old days, before I went 'homemade' I'd roll them in crushed pecans & mini chocolate chips. They were almost too rich to eat but soooooo good.

Southern Fried Apple Pie??? I have no idea what that is, but I definitely want some!!!

We scrubbed the apples, dried them completely, stuck the sticks in and then put them in the fridge. Mom would melt the caramels and then we would dip the cold apples. I do remember wrapping them in wax paper after the dipping and putting them back in the fridge.

I'm not sure I'd have the willpower to put them back in the fridge. Hahaha!

But so yeah. Tomorrow i get to go shopping to get grocerys only because i am not sure i am up to going with my toddler by myself.

You can do it! Give baby a nap & snack before you go & you'll be fine.
