Any Home Bakers Here?

I remember you well from this thread. I read all posts on the baking thread, as they are posted.
What is throwing peeps off,, is your changed Avatar pix. Many associate the picture first as recognizing a member, and not paying attention to the name so much.
Now to change gears.
Your braided bread looks fantastic :love ,, Are you using a Challah Doug recipe??
I bake Challah every so often. I'm not sure :idunno I posted a play by play on here. Next time I bake, I will do so. I like Challah when I feel something in-between a bread, and cake mood. I usually add raisins. Like using up my extra eggs.
Haha! The change of photo is probably the culprit! The other one was a random one I picked when I created the account, so I figured I should update it. :p

I love a good challah bread! The loaves I made were just sourdough sandwich bread this time though.

Making a loaf of Betsy Bread in the machine right now. It's starting to smell very good.

I need to make myself a loaf of GF bread. Maybe tomorrow. I need to make another batch of yogurt too.

Let us know how the cheese making goes, Jared! :)

I actually got some new equipment to help me wax the cheese properly. You see, the entire problem with mold growing underneath the wax was that the wax was not heated hot enough. However, you can’t heat it too high on a stove, because it gets too close to a flashpoint. Dangerously close.

I had to get a double boiler in order to heat the wax to a high enough temperature, so it kills all the mold spores.

I’m doing an experiment with a cheese that ages a short amount of time, farmhouse cheddar. I’ll know if this technique works in a month. If there is no mold after a month, I can easily make and age cheese for a lot longer.

I will let you all know how it goes.

Ah, that makes sense, Jared!

I remember my mom using paraffin to cover jars of jam/jelly. She heated that on the stove, always being very careful not to spill.

What I don't remember is how she cleaned the pan that held the wax. How do you get all the wax out?

Oh, another question:  Is paraffin the same as wax, or is it a special kind, or something else?

To both those questions about cleaning the wax, and if paraffin is a wax, I do not know the answer to either.
