Any Home Bakers Here?

Last week DH went to Carrabba's for a biz lunch and came home raving about the sausage & lentil soup. So I found a knock-off recipe for it and made a pot today. Here's the recipe along with notes of changes I made (or will make next time):

Carrabba's Sausage & Lentil Soup

1 pound Italian sausage
1 large onion, chopped
1 stalk celery, chopped
2 large carrots, chopped
1 small zucchini, chopped (#1)
6 Cups chicken broth (#2)
2 - 14.5 oz. cans diced tomatoes, undrained
2-3 cloves minced garlic
1 tsp salt
2 Cups lentils (#3)
black pepper
red pepper flakes
basil
oregano
parsley
thyme

- Brown sausage and drain off fat
- In large soup pot, combine all ingredients and bring to a boil
- Turn down heat and simmer about 1 hour or until lentils are tender
- Add water if necessary for desired consistency
- Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese when served

Notes:
#1. I didn't have zucchini, so left it out
#2. This was not near enough broth so I added 2-3 Cups of water
#3. Way too many lentils (which might be why I had to add so much water). Next time I'll only add 1 cup lentils.

Seasoning Note:
I used about 1.5 - 2 tsp of each seasoning listed

This was pretty good soup and DH said it tasted a lot like the one he had at Carrabba's so with the changes in the notes, I'll make it again. Of course, right now, I have a huge amount of it in the fridge (darned lentils, lol) so it will be a while before I need to make it again!

do lentils taste similar to split peas or are they different tasting

There are different types, but they do taste different.

I agree, they do taste different. I like both...if you prefer split peas, I bet the soup recipe would be good made with them instead of the lentils.

I looked up the difference and here's what I found:

Today I had some bananas getting overripe so I made NFC's banana bread. Very tasty and the house now smelling so good, couldn't wait the 1 hour to taste .

Glad you liked it!

Any Kraut Burger makers on this thread? I just obtained my mom's traditional dough recipe with scalded milk, I have made knock off versions. Figured I would try the real dough recipe next time I make them. Just curious what people's experiences are with Kraut burgers?
