Is it possible to do (proper) sourdough in a breadmaker?
Yes, I use my breadkmaker dough cycle for everything, including sourdough bread. Just pay attention to the maximum flour yours can handle.

Thanks, I will. Mine has quite a big pan in it, so should handle a reasonable amount.Just pay attention to the maximum flour yours can handle.

I did some research since my recent sour dough failure and that was exactly what the article said was to add sugar.

I'll either give it to the chickens or to the crows. It won't go to waste. I do put out stuff for the crows and they keep the hawks away. This is their territory so they are always looking to see if I have left anything out for them. The crows try to take baths in my bird bath but it is shallow so it isn't easy for them, so I took a bird bath fountain I decommissioned and chiseled out the center where the fountain was and plugged it and put concrete patch that never did get hard do I dug it out and bought some different concrete patch and am going to try that. This bird bath is deeper so hopefully the crows will like it. Hopefully this time the concrete will harden. I'm not to lucky lately. We put an auto filler for the water in the shallow bird bath which is on a timer so twice a day water will go into the bird bath and there is an overflow pan at the base that some of the birds drink out of too. I'm going to put the crow bird bath where I can connect an auto water filler to it too. All of my chicken coops have auto waterers.
