Dehydrated apple slices keep for months, as long as you keep them sealed away from moisture. I had a vacuum sealed bag of them that got lost in the pantry and a year later they were still good.

I dip the apple slices in lemon water to prevent browning, and then drain really good and dehydrate until crispy. Same with banana slices, except I use lime juice for banana slices.

Sometimes I dehydrate the apple peels from when I make an apple pie. They are really good on salads as crispy bits. Plus, being the skins, they are healthy for you - full of fiber.

Editted to add:

In fact, a raw apple with skin contains up to 332% more vitamin K, 142% more vitamin A, 115% more vitamin C, 20% more calcium and up to 19% more potassium than a peeled apple (1, 2).Dec 9, 2017

Oh, that's a great idea. I just snagged a dehydrator my brother was going to throw away. Do they keep quite a while?
Yes but it’s a good idea to use o2 absorbers if you slice them for dehydrating depending on you store and how quickly they go. If you make chips then not as much of an issue.

If you make chips as opposed to not dehydrating them that much? How do you store them? I wondered if freezing them would be good, or if they get mushy when you took them out.

The term use was meant to reference things like sandwiches and toast. Typically it’s eaten before it cools the first time.

My whole family would take a slice of hot bread with butter (real stuff, not that almost plastic fake crap) over a slice of pie or piece of cake.
Got it! Eat = eat NOW. Use = eat LATER.

I've resisted "Eat" since I understand slicing any off before it has cooled an hour makes it non sliceable later. I suppose I could slice it all when it is warm. I think I need to make some "eat now" rolls or something.

Thanks, Debby! I meant to take a picture of the apples, too. They are about golf ball size, but so good. I'm not sure what kind they are.
Just taking the seeds out of something that size would be a chore, I trust you aren't going to peel them. There might be nothing left.

Oh, I think dehydrators can keep many many years! ;)

I like granny smith and throw in a couple macintosh for sweetness
That's funny - I don't like Macs for "fresh eating" because they are too tart!
