<plop> :caf Pay me no mind….just been scrolling through seeing what everyone is whipping up. Since I see many welcome mentions of sourdough, thought I’d post a pic of granddaughter Katie with her first loaf of sourdough bread.

Pumpkin bread with spelt and sourdough, ever since I tried baking bread in a pot it has almost always turned out perfect :) except when it counts, I tried baking a bread for my parents-in-law and of course it didn’t turn out well, it was so tough I could have killed somebody with it 😲 still don’t know what went wrong

Also it's mine and OHs wedding anniversary today, 4 years.. so good excuse to make him something nice.
Happy anniversary!!!!!

Biggest sturgeon, and the biggest fish I have ever caught, was 46 1/4 inches long, weight unknown.
Nice. I assume weight unknown because you released it?

Fine job, as is the case with all she does :) Was that in the old house/trailer?

Thanks!! She has always loved to spend time with me in the kitchen, and she learns and retains things so well. Looking at some of the names in this thread, I’m sure some of you will remember that Katie is mildly Autistic, diagnosed at 18 months old. So we all do everything and anything to boost her confidence, self-esteem, and social skills. Cooking and baking helps tremendously.

For a long time she was trying to make buttermilk biscuits the way I was showing her - in a large biscuit bowl where the flour always stays in the bowl and the biscuits are mixed right in the flour. We practiced and practiced. She got the hang of it, and started making them on her own at home for her family. They tasted good, but she was never happy with the rise - or lack thereof.

Then one night I got a text message from her with a photo of her pan of biscuits. All the text said was, “THEY ROSE”!

Have I ever mentioned how much I love this girl???

Katie, BEAUTIFUL. Which Recipe did you use?
WELCOME. Aria
She used a recipe from the Feasting website, a No Knead Sourdough bread. What she enjoyed the most was using the scale for measuring ingredients - she said it made her feel smart! :lau

Yep, made in the old place where we were stepping on each other when we tried to cook together. Here in the new place, with that fancy 8 foot long center island, we can spread our stuff out and while she works at one side of the island, I can sit at the other and help, advise, supervise, or just admire her determination and growing skills! Let’s see, you’ve known Katie since she was about 8 years old…..she’s 16 now! Can you believe it??
