any one else with flea problems already?

i use advantix and revolution (for the cats)....i have no problems with fleas..2 dogs and 6 cats...but..for inside the house..when i lived in florida..where fleas can get real bad..they used .."20 mule team borax laundry powder"..sprinkle it on your carpet..etc//than vac up after a bit...but...i think you have to keep pets off carpet till you vac it up....it worked..or helped anyways...maybe someone from fla. will have heard this before?..also...dawn dish soap..diluted with water..in a spray bottle..kills them instantly....good luck..Wendy

Thanks for the tips! I just bought a box of borax....no idea why I actually bought it, I didn't have a specific use for it.

Another tip: for getting the little buggers out of your furniture or carpeting......use a rug cleaner with DREFT (the baby detergent) in it. It smells Great and no fleas!

The fleas are really bad here too. We treat our yard every 2 weeks. Weve even had to treat our house twice, but have since gotten frontline. If you go to your local farmers Co Op, and tell them your problem, they should be able to recomend something, and should even mix it up for you. Theres several different liquids you can spray in your yard that are also safe for your animals. There are little granules that you sprinkle around too, but I keep them away from my chickens, just to be on the safe side. I dont know offhand what the spray my husband uses is called, but can find out tomorrow. He could probably reccomend a few things, as he works at our local Co Op,

yes..please let us know..i've been having a very hard time finding anything to use on my lawn..thats safe for my pets...thanks..WEndy

This is one reason I LOVE Colorado - NO FLEAS! High altitude is good for something!

Every year my daughter tries to tell me the dog has fleas because she sees one. ONE. One flea does not a flea infestation make.

I have never used flea stuff on my dogs. A blessing really.

Now flies, red ants, black widows, and moths - I could go on for days. It's a trade off.

I have been told by our vet team to NEVER NEVER NEVER use Advantix on cats. There have been some severe and even lethal side effects. ADVANTAGE IS safe for cats. As for the Borax powder, I can attest that it DOES WORK. Several years ago when we had carpet, some of our cats liked to sleep in the front bedroom. There was a particularly bad flea infestation that year, and the fleas set up a "summer camp" in that room. (There were fleas in the other carpeted rooms, but that one was the worst). I sprinkled 20 Mule Team Borax powder on the carpet (do NOT sprinkle on wet carpet, use it on dry only) . I vacuumed the other rooms (master BR, LR, DR/K, Office) within 2-3 hrs., but left the guest BR closed up and ignored it for 2 weeks. The fleas were totally gone. Yay!

...thanks, Wendy

I have noticed fleas on our dogs too! I will be purchasing Frontline or Advantix tomorrow. I am glad to hear about the Borax. We don't have carpet in this house, but we had lots of trouble in our previous house. We are also finding ticks this year! I really hate that with the threat of Lyme's disease. I live in the city limits, but there is an undeveloped area behind our house.
