Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

I'm looking at it thinking I don't want to wreck it...I want to keep it forever....LOL...silly. I need to open it and make sure it's healthy inside and out anyway....plus, I don't have hens so I could have an egg collecting hobby. Still, you know, the FIRST one....it's special. Which makes me think of a new question....I know not to wash eggs until I use them but how long can they stay at room temperature before they go in the fridge?

Xshoshin, I jumped up and down for joy when I got my first egg, I posted it all over facebook and emailed all of my girlfriends that I used to work with, it was exciting. It took me a couple of weeks before I ate it--everyone said I should have bronzed it. LOL I know some folks leave their eggs out on the counter, but I forget how long the say they'll last. I just refrigerate all of mine but have heard they will last 4-5 weeks in the fridge. Mine haven't stayed around that long, so not sure.

It started to be a successful release of Clemi crazy bird tonight. She did well free ranging but Clara stayed very clear of her. They all went inside the run to go to the coop and Clemi took out after Clara, so, I believe it was not a success. So, tomorrow, I'll let them duke it out for a while, but not sure how long I'll let it continue. Makes me sad. I hate to see Clemi go, but it's not worth the upset to everyone else-- everyone was doing great until I put her back in.

Where are you at? We have been getting snow since March arrived too.

how many chickens do you have to get 135 eggs in January? I only counted 10 in your signature!
Hello Loghousemom!

I have 9 layers. They are hatchery production birds, meant to be prolific layers early. I am anticipating they will lay like crazy for 1/2 years and then I will have 9 lawn ornatments who give me no eggs! lol. Any new birds I get I am going to make the extra effort to have heritage birds that will lay for longer I just had my third 9 egg day in a row. I was shocked. My last holdout just started laying 2 weeks ago, and she was able to string 3 days together. THey are still rather small eggs, but she'll get there.

I am 90 miles north of New York City, on the east side of the Hudson River. Supposed to get 8-12 inches. Stinks... I'm done and way over excitement of snow. It hasn't been as bad as the winter of 10/11, we were buried then, but this is running a close 2nd!

Here's some recent pictures of the girls :)

Ghost, sold to me as and Americauna but I'm being told they're EEs. What's it mean by the leakage around the neck?

Lilly, love her rose comb!

Goblin, other Americauna (alias EE) ?

Congrats Xshoshin. I had text my pics of my first eggs from my 2 older girls to all my friends. I don't do FaceBook... but I did email it to the rest.

Wow! I am so impressed! I have 9 layers too (all hatchery) but my breeds I think are not wonderful layers. The most I get is 6 eggs a day. 5 of them were from last May and the other 4 are from the year before. I know for a fact that one of my Cochins is not laying... Not sure if she ever did. I have a lot of similar colored eggs so It is hard to know for sure who laid what.

we have had much less snow this year than normal, but we were spoiled last year with 60 and 70 degree days through the winter and almost no snow. It was the year before that was a terrible one here. We had 111 inches of snow that year!
