Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Sorry I have not been up lately... I have been a little busy. Part of it is trying to keep up with all the weeds we get here. So sorry for the bad weather out there.. Really... I do worry about all of you when I hear on the news that another storm is coming. We have rain for the next couple of days and I can get caught up on some of these threads and some indoor chores.
USVIYardbird so sorry for your bird. I know it is hard to lose one. We get so attached to them and when we know who takes them away... I wish you luck in getting the culprit.
Happy egg waiting everyone... I have a 17 week gold star that I am watching closely. Don' t think she is quite ready yet. My cuckoo Marans are a way off but they growing nicely. They are 14 weeks old...

Sorry for so many pics... I did try to limit myself.. Hope you enjoy.
Cat, don't ever apologize for photos, we LOVE photos! Thank you for those beautiful flower pictures, I could really use them today, snow falling heavy outside. Just when all the snow had finally melted in the chicken run.... tomorrow there will be a fresh 6-12 inches! yikes! Is this the picture of the Gold Star? My "golden comets" are just about my favorite birds. You should see the size of the eggs they give me, and they are my skinniest scrawniest birds. Your girl is very pretty.

Keep the pictures coming!

Here's some recent pictures of the girls :)

Ghost, sold to me as and Americauna but I'm being told they're EEs. What's it mean by the leakage around the neck?

Lilly, love her rose comb!

Goblin, other Americauna (alias EE) ?

Debbie, your girls are lovely! What kind of hen is the barred one with the rose comb?
When I said "leakage", I was talking about the black markings around the neck. Honestly leakage is probably the wrong term. Penciling might be a better term. I'm no expert on chicken coloring terms. That's a pretty classic coloring pattern for an EE. I have one almost exactly like Goblin! Another clue that your girls are EE are the light gray legs with the greenish tint. Ameraucanas have dark gray, slate colored legs...almost black. The vast majority of what are sold as Ameraucanas in this country's hatcheries are actually EEs, which are Amercauanas breed with other birds. Most of the traits are dominant, including the blue egg gene, so they look extremely similar. EEs are wonderful birds...sweet and colorful! They're usually bigger than Ameraucanas and are generally better egg layers. And really, what difference does a name make if you love your birds?
If you want to read more about it, drop into the Ameraucana thread, where they are on day 5 of a very heated debate on this very issue.

Seriously, it's out of hand.

Oh gosh, I've witnessed when things take off on a thread like that...it isn't pretty! That is why I am so very thankful for our little thread of just feel good, egg, chicken sharing people. Thank you all guys for making this such a fun place to come! MB

Catsol, the pictures are beautiful. Keep them coming. I need a new camera!

xshoshin, I'm still excited about my first egg too, so I know how you feel.

debbie, your chicken are gorgeous.

Now, today I bought a digital scale and I'm getting ready to set it up and reweigh all my eggs. Yeah, I haven't eaten a one yet

I've gotten hung up on my Egg Journal so y'all may have to put up with my numbers game.

I'm going to blow out the insides of the first one and a couple others and save them. They keep forever. I've still got the ones we blew out for my kids and they're in their 40's.

It's been that long and I hope I don't mess up and break the first one. Just don't know how long it's going to take me to get up the nerve to get to eating the eggs. I ordered a Helter Skelter egg rack yesterday and can't wait to display them on that before refrigerating them.

Melabella, I like your idea of putting your totals in your signature.

Anybody have their pullets get really snippy toward each other after they start laying? I've noticed that and I don't have a rooster to keep them in line but I do have a pullet who is evidently acting like one.

you just reminded me that I haven't added up my egg totals for February. Have to do that. I was going to say that some people blow their eggs out, I think I want to try that. So wonderful that you still have the eggs from your childrens youth, love that! I too want to do a bit more extensive egg chart with weighing them all. I weigh them individually from time to time when one is very big or very small just to see,, and of course now,, the infamous 50g WW egg.... ugggggggg!

It's a perfect time to display eggs now anyway, with Easter almost upon us. I've got 5 store-bought eggs left and then I guess I'll have to give in.

LOL I wouldn't trade them for the world :) Love my girls!!! I wasn't sure what leakage was Ha ha. They are so entertaining! I'm thrilled they're better layers
yesss.gif
I always go for the better layers and just love having the assorted colored eggs

Rose comb is a Dominique, Barred rock has the single comb. Some say thats pretty much the difference :) Is this normal for Goblin to not have tail feathers? I see Ghost is really getting a great look going on
