Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

This is the first day mine are fighting over a nest box. I have 2 boxes, and they usually all lay in the same one. I opened the door to the boxes and put my hand in to 2 fuzzybutts! I can't wait til all are laying. I've got 3 everyday layers.

It was so nice yesterday and the day before and now today is gloomy and rainy. I am making steal cut oats for breakfast today. yes, I know its really late for breakfast, but none of us have eaten yet. This is the first time I have ever made them before. I always make rolled oats. I hope my boys like them, because it's going to be part of our change in diet. I am slowly changing my family over to a more healthy way of living. I don't want to make huge changes all at once so my boys are opposed to it. I was to sneak in healthier foods a little at a time. I know its a bit late in their lives (10 and 16) but I have to start sometime. We haven't eaten fast food in 2 years and we don't buy soda anymore either.
On and egg note. I hoping for more then 2 eggs today!

Here's my first 28 eggs in an Egg Skelter that I just got.

Sometime today I will crack my first egg or two.

Well---yesterday was disappointing. I had three girls in the coop in the morning. Laying--or so I thought. I usually get two eggs a day. Yesterday--on the most beautiful day of their laying lives--NONE!

What's up with that? Today only one so far. I thought they were supposed to lay better in nice weather. I think mine decided to take a "sun vacation".

We were out of town all weekend. I came home to find 16 eggs! They were busy. Even better, it was so beautiful today, that I let the chicks out for their first free range afternoon, and I've taken the heat lamp out of their coop. They're growing so fast! Only 5 days till my next hatch is due!

If you let them out to free range, be sure to look outside. Last fall I went a week with just 1 egg a day. I knew they were laying, but I wasn't finding them. When the first snow started to fall I found a stockpile behind and under the sink unit I use for washing produce. I had it covered with a grate but they wiggled their way in. I also found a couple in an old tipped over trash can and lastly, under the bucket of the tractor. (We had it upside down and it made a cozy super-sized nest.)

Love that artwork... Morning all, gloomy, rainy and soooo windy today. Morning chores were not pleasant. Crazy one is in the barn today because they all wanted to stay in due to weather and she just couldn't do it peacefully, soooooo......last night they free ranged and she still attacked everyone, over an acre to run around on and she just couldn't find enough of her own space. Still, everyone had a good time and I just laugh hysterically when my big old RIR gets to running full steam at her BFF partridge plymouth and then they try to fly a little-- it's cute. I noticed that they go where ever I do and my partridge plymouth who really was never handled much as a baby, just runs to me whenever she gets too far away. Funny, my crazy one was handled the most out of everyone and she's the worst acting. My RIR was never handled and she has the best personality. maybe there is something to be said about not handling them so much when they are young. I read that somewhere. Anyway, have a good week all and keep on coaxing those slow layers--
My husband is anxiously getting the ground work laid for the new coop......Yay!
