Any other Catholics out there?

I am Catholic and raising my 3 boys Catholic.

I was brought up as a Catholic...baptized and Christened. But as a teen I started to read my Bible and realized that a lot of the traditions and teachings of the Catholic church went against what I was reading, so I consider myself to be more of an Independent Bible believing Christian. But I do miss the reverance and respect during the Masses. It is a very serene atmosphere, and not as distracting during worship, as some of the other churches I've been to.

The Princess was raised Catholic but was "forced" from the church when she married me in a non-sectarian ceremony. I would not agree that any children that might be born would be required to become Catholics. I was in complete agreement that they would be exposed to the Catholic church but felt that they should be allowed to choose their own way of finding God. That was unacceptable to the Catholic church. Hopefully such dogma is no longer in existance.

I'm not Christian at all, but I do enjoy learning about Christianity. There are so many things about it that confuse me and always have. I love learning about other religions, even though I'm set in my path.

Over the course of the past year I have done alot of reading and researching, to refresh my memory on the teaching and the practices of the Catholic Church. I have given some serious thought to becoming a "re-vert". Then I learned something that gave me pause and may preclude me from ever rejoining the Catholic Church. My husband is a freemason. I haven't discussed this with the parish priest to see if it holds true in practice, but being a freemason is forbidden by Canon Law. If my husband can't join (regardless of whether he ever wanted to or not) I'm not sure I will re-vert.

I can still attend mass though.

I am nondenominational (protestant), but I have a very close friend who is Catholic. She is a lovely person and I enjoy listening to her talk about the different aspects of her faith.

I'm not catholic either, but have a lot of respect for a number of catholic friends. I did have the chance to go to the Vatican when I was in Italy. There was an ordination mass going on when we got there so they wouldn't let us enter the cathedral. They were showing it on the big screens out on the piazza. It was very cool to get to watch. It was all in either Italian or Latin (I speak neither) so I have no idea what was going on. It was a lovely service though.
We did get to go in the catherdral later on and it was spectacular.

Wow, i Really did not expect even one reply, seriously! Well, i'm still a kid technically (only got confirmed last year) but I am completely in love with the Catholic tradition. I know a few people who say "well, you just believe in all that junk because your parents do," but that not true. I spent about half a year as an agnostic, i was so sure that God just didn't care about me anymore. Then with the help of some saints, a song, and more than a few miracles, I am perfectly at peace with being a Catholic, and totally lovin it!

I'm glad there are a few others out there.
Sour: The dogma was made out of consideration for the children of marriages. If Mommy is one religion and Daddy is another, the kids will grow up conflicted. The Church prefers that the kids grow up one religion only, whether that be Catholic, Protestant, or whatever. Catholic being the preferred option, of course.
