if the problem keep happening...crate the cat when you can watch her like a hawk..
I crate trained my cat until he was about 18 months old cause he did the same thing but it was on my sons stuff..at about 18 months old he just stopped on his own (he was neutered at 6 months before he sprayed)..now when i put my dogs to bed in the back hall..all i say is "bed time girls" and the cat heads for his cat carrier still and he is about 2 1/2 now
dogs that are very obedient will find somewhere else in the the house (besides the floor, which they have been told NOT to go on) to pee or poo if they really have to go. I knew a dog (who never had accidents in the house before) that had pooped on top of it's owners pool table because it really had to go.
A few more questions: Has your dogs urination amount changed lately? has her water intake changed? Any other health changes?
Dogs personality? Submissive or Dominant? i espeically want to know where Drumstick lies in the pack.
Where does the dog sleep at night?
Any changes in the household? (person visiting, new pet, someone moved out, etc etc)
I'm glad you are not simply kicking the dog outside. People need to be responsible for their pets and try to fix the problem before taking the easy exit.
In the meantime, Nature's miracle works well on carpet. Ive never tried it on a mattress but you should go ahead and try.
To begin with she is 3 years old and has had no changes. Trouble is
there is a possibility our 1 1/2 year old male dog did this since he has
pooped on Drumstick's bed. We are 90% sure it was our female who
did it but know of at least 1 case where our younger male has pee'd
there too.
Both dogs sleep on our beds with us. They rotate depending on who
can deal with them at the time. Sandy likes the corner but Jake is
an 80 pound cuddler.
Both dogs are housebroken and well trained.
Now, since the matress issue, which has happened a few times now,
they are gated downstairs and have to sleep on the couch or blankets.
We also have an 18 year old dog but she can't climb the stairs so she
stays downstairs too.
In my opinion both dogs view Drumstick as an equal in the pack. I am
the Alpha. Both dogs walk by my side but will pull Drum or my wife
accross the yard.
Kay, I didnt read all of the posts here, but after you get the stain/smell out, I would get a waterproof matress cover. Just in case. My mom has a minpin who pulls the same stunt.
It's interesting that your male dog started it. He could be the one that turned it into an acceptable pee spot. The female could just be smelling the previous urine.
So, if the female is "off the hook" for the dog to blame for causing the problem, that leaves your young male, which makes more sense due to his age. As most people know, teenager dogs like to see what they can get away with and they are trying to figure out where they belong in the family, or pack. The male dog could have been asserting his dominance over drumstick by using drumstick's personal space as a restroom. Even if it seems like dogs might have their equals, there is always one lower or higher in the pack (just like chickens, LOL!) . It does sound like you understand dog behavior pretty well compared to an average dog owner.
How long ago did the male pee/poo on the bed? Trying to find out whether this is a current issue or if the male dog has moved already figured out his place.
Use the nature's miracle (its supposed to get rid of enzymes) and then let that mattress dry out. Get that plastic cover, not only for the fact it will protect the mattress, BUT because it will block whatever urine smell is left in the mattress, and hopefully your female dog won't use it as a restroom anymore.

She was spayed way before her heat cycle. If she does this again I dont know if crate will help, she is already a year old now.
Believe it or not, most of the time when a pet poops or pees on your bed it's because they love you and want to be with you. They don't have a "mad or get even" thing in their head. I would try to be very vigilent with potty breaks and praise alot when she goes outside. It can be very trying but good luck!
Wow, you all are great. This has become an interesting thread.
I really don't know which dog did it first but I know my younger male
has pee'd and pooped on the bed and our 3 year old female has pee'd
on it several times.
The problem has been we always find it some time afterwards so we
are never able to discipline the guilty dog. As we all know, rubbing
a dogs face in pee or poop doesn't do anything other than scare the
animal.
We did pick up some enzymatic cleaner at Walmart last night. It seems
to be working although I can still smell the dang vinegar. I have the
ceiling fan blowing on it and the windows cracked. After it fully dries
we will put down some baking soda and cover with the vinyl covers I
also bought.
In the meanwhile all three of us have been sleeping in the master
bedroom until I start to snore. It's cozy.
