Any writers out there????

Hey Geri!
Writer.... What a simple word for such a diverse field. I'm on my final edit of a novel (if there is such a thing!). I had the idea back in 2005 and when business screeched to a halt, I began to put serious time into it. I found out that I LOVE to write. You know the kind of love - when you write that perfect chapter and afterward you stand up and do a giddy raindance over the conflict and resolution? Yeah, that kind...
I have had two editors and both are pushing me to publish, but I've yet to find an agent (not sure where to start). I have the outline for the sequel and the story inside me, as well as complete outlines for several more stories. I guess you could say that I've found my niche.

Even if I never get published, my grandkids ought to love it. My kids (18 & 23) gave me a good review, so it must be good, right?

The book is titled "Between Live and Death", is almost 700 pages and every one flowed like water.
The problem is, how in the world can you get paid to do something that you absolutely love? LOL

Well, thanks for bringing up the subject. I wish each of you much grace toward you writing efforts.

So who is " DH?" Is this someone you have edited in the past. Sounds interesting. Can we hear more about this mysterious person?

And, Hey English Chick! Your book sounds wonderful and fresh. Are you saying you are dyslexic and your son is also? Is that right?

If so, you must publish this book! What an amazing story.

And, even if your son is not, how is it being a dyslexic mother and trying to help your son?

This goes for every one:

Don't ever listen to people who say, "Oh, so much has been written already."

Bunk...Your position, your view, your interpretation is new. Like there is only one book about WW II???

Like there is only one book about cancer, child birth, diets??? Don't ever let a comment like that stop you. Write it. Your opinion, view, research is new...We need to hear it. All of it from all of you

Hi Jakika,

Thank you for your welcoming comments. It has not been easy being dyslexic myself, but have overcome many obstacles. My son although not dyslexic is discalculic, this meaning he has major problems even with the simplest of math, he has learning support at school and is starting to come to grips - albeit - slowly with his math. His self esteem has risen considerably due to the learning support. Funnily enough the two of us together (my son and myself) help each other out...and have fun doing so. He has been a fantastic teacher for me computer wise and I help him with maths (but not Long Division, as I still can't do that!) methinks I am also discalculic.

Regarding "DH" when members write DH it means "Darling Husband" DD = darling daughter, DS = D. Son, SIL = Sister in Law
BIL = Brother in Law. MIL + Mother in law and so on and so forth.

Am also working on another book "The Diary of a PTA Chairwoman"

It is about my long experience within the PTA and then rising to Chairwoman and raising £26,000 for the benefit of the school (along with other members of course!) The book is about leading a group of mainly woman to success in fundraising with lots of laughter and some tears along the way.

Am starting to ramble on again.........

I love to write and would like to be a writer.I write alot, mostly books but I have not had anything published, though I would like to.Its hard to find a publisher that I can afford and still don't know everything I need to do (if there is anything)before looking up a publisher.

Hi Pinky:

So great that you love to write and have several books already.

You know, publishing isn't everything. Writing is what counts.

I was a journalist for a long time, so I was "published" in news papers.

Books and the book world is very different, and brutal.

There are several very good "self" publishing places that do what is called "Print on Demand." That means you don't have to buy 100 books right away. I think you only need to buy one, then you can pay to have them printed as you want to.

That is Lulu.com. It's pretty neat.

I did not go the self publish route as my book is non-fiction and there was/is too much information that could be litigious.

However, I have many writer friends that have self-published and they are very, very pleased with it.

I have a degree in journalism. I do a lot of freelancing. I'm also a photographer and own a studio where I do both.

I'm slowly working on 1, maybe two books. LOL. One of them is on easy to make Halloween costumes.

I do a lot of law enforcement writing for police/fire magazines.

Hey Volumne 904..

Neat to hear from you. Good luck on your books...books on "how to" are very popular. Great idea.

Your timing is interesting, so I hope you can answer a question for me.

How is the freelance market these days? I ask because I heard a woman talk on NPR saying that the freelance market was also depressed along with everything else.

She said she was getting paid a lot less now than a few years ago, although the freelance payments have been dwindling.

Is that true for you as well?

I love freelancing, but I didn't have to pay my rent from it. I'll be interested to hear your answer.

Thanks.

Hi, we do have a lot of writers on here, and very good ones at that. The freelance market is alive and well and depending on your strength very lucrative. Nice to have another writer on board.

Yup, believe it or not, I'm a writer/editor, working for a journal. I don't have a degree in journalism, but then, my education never seemed to match the jobs I did.

Personally, since I do photography as well, I fluctuate as to what I do.

I have found that I have gotten less requests lately. Of course, I have been busier doing portrait sessions and running my business so haven't had the same time to devote to my freelance work.
