Anybody ever knock a rooster out???

Years ago I had a RIR roo that went after my 18 month old. My husband knocked him out cold and as soon as he woke up he started attacking again. Needless to say he didn't get the chance to do it again.

Lord, I can't tell this and it be nearly as funny as it was in person, but YEARS ago I had 3 roosters that just roamed the farm and I was having to catch them to put them in another pen. Well I had been round and round and ROUND trying to catch the last one when my mother in law walked up. She says "whatcha doin". I (with sweat dripping, and out of breath) reply, "just trying to catch this little rooster". "Well" she says," let me help you". Now my mother in law has never had an animal in her life, much less a whole farm ,so this I wanted to see. Well after about 15 minutes more of me trying to catch him with the net, and her telling me I missed him, I was DEAD. He casually walked by and I chunked the net at him and KNOCKED HIM OUT COLD!!!! My mother in law starts SCREAMING "You've killed him Mandy, you've killed the little rooster!" I said, "Good, now I don't have to catch him" I went over and picked him up by the feet and looked him over and he was DEAD. So, I chunked him over the fence and me and MIL stood there chit chatting. Well lo and behold about 10 minutes later, here came that dang rooster running sideways!!! We both were laughing so hard we couldn't move, then after afew minutes I went over and caught him and put him in the pen and he was fine from then on out.

Wow!! There must be something wrong with my RIR rooster. If I sit down he runs and jumps in my lap and goes right to sleep. Too bad he's rough on the girls though. He is in rooster prison right now.

Our duck had just hatched out her clutch of baby ducks and we had 2 come up missing, well one night i was in the barn and i saw one our roos swoop in and swipe the last baby by the leg and try to drag it off, you better believe i came up swingin', he was out for like 20 minutes...he woke up and went about his business...

We used to always have trouble with RIR roos when we were kids too. My dad spent a lot of time butchering the offenders, so they usually only got one attack each.

I think the RIR's relatively fearless nature, which so often causes them to be great "pet" chickens can also serve to make them quick to attack a human.

I have also been attacked by a red sex link rooster. He was also delicious.

My son had 2 roos that were very mean. They would chase him across the backyard. They even had him pened in their pen and wouldn't let him out. He came to the back door one day and said mom I think I killed my chicken. He was holding him. He looked like he was dying to me. I told him to just lay him on the deck. In a few mintues we went to check on him and he was up running around. We gave both of them away that very day.

My RIR roo must not be the norm. He is the sweetest roo we have, he is over a year old and still lets the kids carry him around the yard. He is pretty rough on the hens so we have to keep him away from them every few days, he was pulling all thier back feathers out.

My mom done the same thing to a RIR they had. He flogged her she whacked him with a stick (accidently hitting him in the head) she thought she killed him. Well she done the rest of the feeding, and by then he was up and back to normal. LOL

this is exactly what my husband did to my roo. hes been even more vicious since. the poor guy was knocked to the ground, and was breathing very heavy. i thought he was dying. so i picked him up and he kept his eyes shut. i kept talking to him and petting him. then i tried to see if he could stand. he couldnt he was really dizzy. he tried to walk and fell on his side. it was horrible!

It might be just my nature, but I can't see myself forgiving a rooster that attacked me. I love fried chicken too good, and that just gives me an excuse. We'd be eating high on the hog that night, lol
