Anybody hatching around March 7th? PICS page 9,18

14 chicks out of 35 eggs so far. I feel like there should be more hatched, but the official end of the 21st day isn't until this afternoon sometimes. One group of eggs from some Amish people didn't even start pipping until the last few hours, so I'll probably get some from that.

This was our first time trying to hatch the eggs in an egg carton. So far, it feels like the hatch rate is lower than when I just lay them on their sides, but I guess the fat lady hasn't sung just yet.

Edit: Make that 16 chicks.

Here's an update from me:

I went to bed last night with one EE just hatched and soaking wet, bobbling around the 'bator... and one small pip on another EE. This morning there were two chicks happy and fluffed up in there!

AND there are two more Pips!

Another of the EE eggs, and a Frizzle D'uccle that was shipped from California!!! I really hope that one makes it, I would love to see what it looks like! I have one more egg from the Frizzle D'uccle yet to do anything, and then there's the one Polish and 5 more EEs that we're waiting on.

So as of now out of 14 eggs - I have 4 chicks, 2 pips, and 7 still waiting (and one DOA)... it's still day 21 for me - I just realized that Day 21 started at 6pm yesterday... I set the eggs at 6pm on Feb. 13th.

Here are a few more pics of my 4 chicks so far! I've got one just starting to zip - the Frizzle Mille Fleur D'uccle from California... I really can't wait until it comes out so I can see what it looks like! Em

This is my brooder set-up...

Here's the early hatcher - the yellow one that actually hatched on day 19.

Here are all four - interesting colors... I expected a bunch of chipmunk stripy chicks, so far only one is stripy, although they're all EEs. Sorry that it's not close up... (they came from Sumner-Byrd Farm)

Oh, how cute!

I had 2 hatch before I went to bed, and I woke up to 6 more this morning. So, I have 8 out of 10. The other 2 have pips, but one hasn't progressed since last night.

Angiechick - that's wonderful! You're so lucky! What kind of incubator do you have and how did you run it (like temps and humidity levels, how often did you turn, etc) What kinds of chicks do you have?

Still learning, and trying to be patient, Em

I have a Hova Bator 1602N with a pc fan I installed in it. It has done a wonderful job keeping temps and humidity throughout incubation. The temp ran 99.5-100. The humidity I think was a little high, it was at 55 or so. But, it worked, so I can't complain. Now it is around 65-70. I turned the eggs 3 times a day and candled on 6, 14 and 18. Out of a total of 12, one went rotten at the 6 day candling and one was a quitter discovered at day 14.

These are my test hatch before I get my silkie eggs in a few weeks. A friend of mine has a mixed flock of brown egg layers and 3 roos (one bantam, one EE and one I don't remember). So far, I suspect that 2 are EE, the rest I'm not sure. I'll post pics in a bit. They are cute little fluffs though! I think they may have to hang out with me for a week or so before I give them back to her

Very cute chicks Em! My bantams look just like your EEs but mine are mixed and didn't have colored eggs.

Angie, congratulations on a great hatch so far!!

I just got in the mail on Thursday the Genesis 1588 incubator and what a dream it is. Temp right on 100 all the time and humidity is pretty good so far. I have my next hatch in there right now. They are due to hatch next week.
I bought a gently used LG still air too and it arrived yesterday. Not nearly as reliable temp wise as the genesis even though it has a build in electronic thermostat. You do have to adjust it where the Genesis is pre set and it just works!
I am anxious to see how these do. No eggs in the LG. I will probably just keep that one as a back up. I have a Hovabator still air that I started with and it is working good right now. I hate the wafer thermostats. You never know what they will do.

I have a home made incubator too that I have been hatching in and it works fine but I think I am going to take the PC fan out of it and put it in the LG.
I bought a bank of four little fans attached together in a plastic housing that I am going to install in my Hovabator. It runs off a USB port on your computer and I just happen to have my incubators in the computer room so I will run it off my computer.
I also bought a laptop cooling fan which is flat and has three fans in it. I may switch it to the home made bator since it is tall enough so I can install it against the wall of the bator.
Do you think I have enough bators now?????
I AM OBSESSED!!!

Wow... you guys are fancy shmansy! I've got a borrowed Brower Top Hatch... it's pretty good at holding the temp right, but the top leaks like crazy as far as the humidity is concerned. If I end up doing this again, I might try to find something used, but this is probably a one-time deal for me (but it's pretty addicting!!!!) So, we'll see!
