Anybody hatching around March 7th? PICS page 9,18

Oh, waiting to hear! My older chick is pecking the younger ones too!
but so far, not drawing blood or anything...
pecks their wings, feet, eyes... ug...
mostly just wakes them up when they TRY to take naps!

Spunky little thing!!! Personally, I would not take just one out; maybe he will tire himself out and fall asleep? Besides, I heard that the peeping will encourage the ones who are pipping to come out. Does that make sense? I don't think they have the capability to peck each other to the point of harm? anybody else?

Oh you poor thing...how could you go to WORK! I would have called out sick...LOL

Tell me about it. It's TORTURE. And I work for my mother's business, so no faking.

So far, she hasn't seemed receptive to the idea of calling in due to chickens.

Well, I got another pip.

This is the second pip that has pipped on the wrong end of the egg. What would cause this? My last hatch I had 1, and this hatch I had 2. I think next time im going to move the eggs to the cartons the end of day 17.

I found that if I left the unincubated eggs longer in the cartons with the large end up the air cells were more likely to end up in the right place. I usually leave mine for about 18 hours before I set them.

OK, now I'm really sad:(

I went down there and there was a bird that had been zipping, working really hard for the last hour or so... but when I just went down there it had stopped moving... last time I checked, it was zipping, but breathing really hard, like panting with it's mouth opening and closing. Anyway... this time it was completely still... so I sat there for a while, whistling to it, and the other two chicks were hopping around in there - hopping on this little zipper... it still wasn't moving. I am sure it's dead.

After watching for like 15 minutes or so, I decided to take that yellow chick out after all - she's completely dry, and the other (brown) chick peeps enough to encourage any other pippers to come out... and it needs to rest anyway without the yellow one jumping on it. Now I'm freaking out wondering what happened... of course the humidity went way down when I took out the yellow chick... so now I'm trying to get it up again... it had been close to 80%, now it's around 55%...

I'm really bummed...
