Thats great Ryu!

I just checked the eggs, its almost the start of day 20, and I have 1 pip. But the chick pipped low on the shell. Good thing I cut the bottoms out of the cartons. That happened last time also, a chick pipped low. More pips should follow soon.

My last one for this hatch was stuck this morning when I got up so helped the little thing get out. My homemade bator doesn't keep the mosture well so it was only 35% when I got up. Probably because she was the only egg left in the bator. She is doing well, looks like a bantam cross, a bit larger than her tiny sisters. The whole batch is doing well, five little chicks.
Next Friday I have a whole bunch more that will be ready to hatch. Salmon Favorolle, Giant Jersey and Lt. Brahma.

Is it possible to have shells that are too strong? I had a few pip last night and nothing has changed this morning. I'm not going to intervene though....just can't bring myself to do it!

You are very welcome! I think the only reason I caught it was because I set my eggs on the same day, and I have gone through the calender at least 50 times to make sure I had my count right. And then I saw your hatch date, and I was back at the calender again thinking I had my dates messed up.

Good luck to you! Hope you have a great hatch!

Don't worry about the shells. It just sometimes takes a very long time for the chicks to work their way out. The main thing is the humidity.
I had my last one pip yesterday morning at about 9 AM and it still hadn't hatched by this morning. They can take up to 24 hours to hatch. It's apparently hard work for a little chick and they rest for long periods in between. The main thing is that they have to absorb all the yolk before hatching and I think many times they aren't really ready when they first pip.
Just try not to worry. I know, I know, easier said than done and I am one of the worst offenders. I am getting better with each hatch though.

My first little yellow chick that hatched last evening, she pipped and didn't really do anything else for another 18 hours! I was so worried! But now I know that it can take a long time for the little things to gain enough energy to break all of that shell away. Just wait, and sit on your hands... it's so hard to do... I have to get out of the house to keep from sitting there with my nose against the lid!!!

I've got one chick and 4 pips now... SOOOO Excited! I'm a little dissapointed though, my bantam frizzle-d'uccle haven't done anything so far (they were shipped from Calif. - but have shown perfect growth)... The chick that's in there is bouncing around on top of the yet-to-hatch eggs...

trying hard to be patient... Em

Everybodys getting pips!

I just checked and I have 3 pips. 1 is on the low end of the egg, but the pip has gotten bigger ( brahma egg ), another brahma egg is pipped, and so has a Black Breasted Red Old English (that little one is moving quick too) There was no pip on the OEGB an hour ago, I come down to check the bator, and its a large pip, and starting to zip.

I cant wait to see the BBR oegb chick. I had only one in my last batch, and it didnt hatch. They havent been laying good, so I think I only put in 4 or so , and 2 made it to the hatcher.

Well, it turns out that my last chick was a surprise. It is a black silkie. I knew that the girl that sent the chicks had silkies but I just didn't really think about it and so this is my first silkie chick.
Unfortunately, his legs are kind of wonky. I have put a splint on one that is quite bent and have both feet on masking tape splints. I hope he will straighten up because I really wanted a silkie.

Time will tell.

Good luck with that Silkie baby, Gina! So you're done with your hatch? I'm dying to get the little fluffy yellow girl out of the 'bator - she's so lonely and hops over to us whenever we come for a look. I know I'm not supposed to, so I'll wait... tonight she'll be 24 hours old...
