Anybody hatching around March 7th? PICS page 9,18

I now have 6 in the brooder 2 in the bator 3 zipped and TNC piped.

We had to go out of town for the weekend and wouldn't you know it we had 6 chicks hatch. They are black sex links and RIR. They were hatched under a silkie. I hope to get pictures tomorrow. I haven't seen them yet but my son said we have 4 black sexlink. Only one with a dot on his head and two RIR.

Well I have 3 doing well, just hanging out with their butt in the shell...too bad another one was upside down...he broke the internal membrane with his foot and i guess couldn't get turned around

darn it...gotta be happy for the one's that are healthy!

WOOOWHOOO! I have three that hatched and the fourth has a pip! The only thing that worries me is my temps have decided to fluctuate (sp) everything from 95 degrees to 103. Is that normal? I know the humidity will go high during a hatch but what about the temp?

Well, everybody is out and in the brooder and got their Marek's vaccinations. I did not help any chicks pip/zip/or out of their shells. The final numbers:

20 set
19 made it to the move to the hatcher
14 healthy chicks

5 quit at various stages of no pip/pip/zip.

The quitters were Standard Cornish eggs. Quitting seems to be a problem with the birds I bought, so I am trying to be hands off to try and select for 'finishers'. One clearly passed day 18ish. One piped but hit a blood vessel and bled out in the shell. One was huge and was packed so tight in the shell, I don't think he could move well enough to get a zip going--I feel the worst about not helping him, it was a beautifully marked chick. The other two had their beaks in the air cell but quit.

I am very gratefull for my healthy chicks. 24 more to go in the hatcher March 17th to be born on the first day of Spring!

OK, here are my fuzzybutts! I can't identify all the banties (except the Top Hat, LOL), but the LF are all either CB Marans or Marans/Orp crosses, and a couple of Marans/EE crosses. I didn't get pics of all of them.

Wow - those are great photos of your chicks!!! If it's warm out tomorrow, I may try to get some better ones of mine too - now I see yours, I want to get better pix of mine!

You take the BEST pics!!! But you've got good material to work with. Cutie pies.

I took them outside so I could get a decent shot--trust me, I am USELESS with indoor photography. Really horrible. The best trick anyone ever taught me for getting good shots of animals is to set the zoom for about half of its capacity, and shoot accordingly. So that's what I always do. My BEST pictures come from using a 300 lens, set to about 150, from a long way off.

And I don't KNOW what the feather-footed ones are! They're bantams, and some of the broken eggshells were labeled Silver Phoenix, Mottled Cochin, Buff Cochin, and Frizzle (and of course Top Hat).
