Yuck!
DD2 has been begging for a rat. Can't wait to tell her the part about peeing all the time.

Course, that just means she'll start begging for a guinea pig

Either way, she gets no small pet until she consistently cleans out the cat's litter box. So I'm safe.

rat-magazine...get on with your bad self really? Heck I couldn't even convince mine to run a maze and ya'lls rats read!

My rats are happy and healthy...not as happy as they would be if the boys got to play with the girls more but I gotta pay for the feed and well...that is about enough of that!

Next time I am in a big city I will have to check out one of those rat magz!...if they will let me in the city...stupid city codes!

But you are right about if Clint has them then it has to be cool

Rats are the best small pet you can have. they are intelligent, love human company and are real fun to have around. The females seem to wee a lot less - we have had both and the males tend to leak as they walk about but not the females. we just lost a rat a few weeks ago and she was 3 and a half which is a good age. we are waiting for a pair of females as we really miss her. I would never get any other small rodent since we have had rats - they never bite if they are handled properly from being small. they are really lovely.

( yes I know that is not the proper name for them)
They are not gonna cost me anymore than the chickens do, or the rabbits, or the lizard, or the pig, or the goat........ ok you get the picture!! I have done a little research and I plan to do more. I will try to get some pics later.

Rats aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be. As long as you don't get one of the super nasty feeder breeders from the petstore that've NEVER been handled, you'll love them. They have their own personalities, they aren't stinky if taken care of, and the marking that they do, it's just a little streak across your arm. Think like dipping a q-tip in water, tapping it somewhere to remove excess water, then dragging that a few inches on your arm. Really, it's not like they pee gallons of pee on you. They can also be potty trained (but, do expect to be marked with pee, there's no getting around that). If they're properly socialized (again, basically, as long as you don't get an abused rescue or old abused feeder breeder) you shouldn't ever get bitten. They're not like hamsters that will bite simply because you woke them up. They're also extremely intelligent. My very first rat, Kilo, was trained like a dog. She would fetch things (ok, she didn't do it on command, but if you threw money, she would fetch that and bring it back), she was litter trained, she played hide and seek, she came when called, etc, etc. She was a thief though, you had to lock your money up, or she'd steal it and stash it away, dollar bills and coins. I found a ton of "lost" money by cleaning out my book shelf, lol. If you were paying attention, she'd bring the money to you, but if you weren't, in the bookshelf it went.
Dumbos are said to be, in general, more laid-back than standard rats. Other than this, and basic appearance, they really aren't much different from other rats. You can get your nasty dumbos just like you can get nasty standards.
