OMG, I just got home and read these posts! First of all I for one am not complaining about the cost of the eggs, just very surprised. I am kind of new to the chicken breeding thing and I just wanted to try and understand the breeding behind the price if possible. I understand now that sometimes no matter the breeding that things will sell for what people are willing to pay, supply and demand, and even if there is no info available on that particular breeding if they are out there and people want them bad enough they buy no matter what. I think there are two different kinds of breeders. Those who do it for an income and those who show and preserve the breed. I think the latter is more noble, interesting and fun but I don't judge people because they want to make a buck. Just look at the hatcheries. Most don't preserve the breed. They are in it for the money. It's a business. But we still buy from them. If Greenfire does not want to discuss their program then they don't have to but it reflects on them, but it's their choice. Like I mentioned before, if they don't discuss it, it's probably nothing to brag about. I just look at them as another hatchery. So be it. If someone looks at their auction and doesn't get the info they want then they don't have to bid. The people who are buying obviously just want them for the potential income or they are too naive to figure it out, which I'm sorry for but buyer beware. I am very interested in the Lavender Orpington as I love the look of Orpingtons and also adore the color lavender and it's cool that it runs true as opposed to the blue. If I bred them and worked on them to perfect them and ended up with something worthy to sell I would be very proud of my work and be willing to discuss it with anyone who would listen. BTW, I love this forum. None of my friends care that much about chickens and this is the only place I can talk about them all I want. I have started many topics that have gone no where except to provide an answer or two which is great but I am not ashamed to say I am very proud of this one even though there have been a few hackles raised it has been very interesting to follow along. Chicken people are very passionate people.
