pips&peeps :

What I don't get is the coronation sussex bit. Yeah, he paid alot to get them imported, but they are not show quality here in the US. They won't be until the get breeder club gets them approved, so why are all these people who have them now advertising them as show quality????

I have never seen an advertisement by people who are selling lavender orpingtons and lavender ameraucanas as show quality........

Most people think since they bought an egg from someone who shows that breed, they have show quality without ever showing. lolol
Yep that is SQ to most folks.

I just hatched some Coronation Sussex splits that parent stock originated came from Greenfire (actually, I think they all do in the US, correct me if I'm wrong) I love the lavender color on their necks. I fell in love with them. They are gorgeous so hopeful I will end up with some nice birds. Do the day old pure Coronation chicks really sell for over $100 ea? Compared to the price of the chicks the eggs were reasonably priced it will just hopfully be one generation before I will end up with some pures but couldn't afford chicks. I just want a few so I can look at them!

You can get a pair of Coronation Splits for $200 and a pair of Coronation for $500. I purchased my pair from Blue Poultry and his birds are absolutely stunning and he is awesome to buy from. Very, very nice gentleman and he will answer all of your questions. (Trust me, I had a ton of questions, and he answered them all) You don't have to wait days for him to respond. I would recommend him to anyone. He started his flock of Coronation from Green Fire Farms line. If you purchase them from Green Fire Farms (6) day old Coronation chicks are $750.00 and I have seen a pair of his Coronation sell for $1500.00.

I should have Coronation somewhere around the end of April. So, I am very excited

They don't call them project birds and I think a lot of people will realize that once they start growing out. They need a lot of work on conformation. It's best to breed them to some nice black orpingtons to improve them.

mine have high necks and tall tails, LOL. They look like they are walking on stilts and I would like to see more substance... They need a LOT of work. I already have some Black Orpington eggs in the incubator from Bama Chicken to hopefully work them much closer to the breed standard in a few years. Hatching is always iffy with me and my hovabators in the linen closet and a crazy work schedule, but I'm at least trying and not just all talking about it.

And that right there is the issue. They are apparently project birds, but no mention of that in the auction. People are going nuts thinking this rare breed is finally available, and ironically aren't 'discriminating' enough. They'll think they have Lav Orps, just breed everything they hatch and end up producing trash.

I have always thought the value of anything is what someone is willing to pay and someone is willing to accept as payment. I personally would not pay that much when Byc people like scbatz33 and hinkjc has great birds. Last year hinkjc had an auction and the eggs brought around $400 fo a dozen. Bamachicken auctioned her black orps for around the same money for a dozen. I was blessed to receive offspring from both of these auctions for a very good price. Sometimes people get caught up in the competition of an auction and get carried away. I was watching the auction last night and saw the bidding get fierce. All Mr Bradshaw did was place the eggs on auction.
I have owned lavenders from hinkjc and scbatz33 and all of their roosters looked better than the one in the picture. This is only my veiwpoint on this matter so I pray no one takes offence.

Have a Blessed night

Roy

I did not have a great experience with GreenFire. I was dissappointed in several ways on a purchase. I just lived and learned.
