Unfortunately, ALOT of EBAY sellers will drop a name in a heartbeat to sell their eggs. My personal view is like yours. Unless the breeder is setting up your breeding pens, and or gives you permission, THEN and ONLY THEN you can use the names to sell the eggs.

rustywoman, your boy looks like a nice fella. Nice medium comb, appears to be decent size ( 9 lbs and over is good size ), I know nothing about what a good lav color should be, the one place I might work on is the tail angle and maybe a bit longer back. I'd get a big low riding black hen with great type to take him too. good luck

He is too long in the neck and too leggy. His comb needs improvement also.

In the current pic, he looks like he has a lot of black coming through. I was told by a guy that breeds lav ameraucanas that the black "leakage" is very hard to get rid of in lav. birds. Maybe it's just the picture though - in the others pics I don't see any of that black, but rather "blonde" feathering, indicating red leakage as stated by Pips&Peeps.

Thank you so much! I will go take another look for the black leakage. I had wondered about the red leakage myself but about a month ago I was told it was not leakage but sun bleaching...?

He is always outside--so I really don't know. He didn't have it for a long time and then Poof! There it was. I appreciate all the input.

I think you should read the original post .... the auction they refer to is an auction of Paul's, not someone using his name.

Germaine .... about that, "leakage," I wonder about that, too. I have Jersey Giants that get what looks like that too (but they are not lavender). I was told it was from the sun, or from excess corn. ????

My Lavender Orpington project birds show none of this, but they are still young and have not been out in the sun. I hope someone with more knowledge than me can answer your question.

Patty, I found some pictures of Jody and Charlie's BEAUTIFUL Lavender's here ....

I checked already, Greenfirefarms does not have any lavender birds listed. The ebay ID for Greenfire is Stoneunhinged, and he has/had pumpkins and copper marans listed. This had been pointed out already that the OP was mistaken and the listing was NOT Paul's but somebody using his business name. You can see the birds that Paul specializes in by visiting his website Greenfirefarms.com.

IMO anyone who would pay $30 for a chicken egg, any chicken egg deserves what they get. That's just nuts.

How fast can you turn junk into quality? Check out the evolution of my new line of Black Orp. In Aug of 08 I bought some, what was suppose to be, Black Jersey Giants from Mt Healthy. After about 6 months of growing out, my Andre the Giant winds up to be Landrew the production Australorp. At that time I just was given some of a local Buff Orp Breeders Exhibition line girls to make a go of them.
Not knowing at the time, my girls were knocked up by Landrew, my first Buff Orp cockerel I put in the pen with the Buff girls was a dud. He did not do it. And the girls laid fertile eggs. And not taking a chance, I incubated and hatched out one that I call BUSTOFF. He is the creamy muttled colored cockerel. BUSTOFF is 11 lbs at 11 months old. Too nice to NOT mess around with. I thru in with him a nice Blue Splash pullet. She laid two eggs. I hatched them out, one will DEFINITELY have Red Leakage, BUT the other is SO FAR looking good. Moral of this post, is to not give up on your line. Hatch out a few and see what comes out.
I now have a new respect for Australorp mixes. lololol
This is what a 1/4 Australorp, 1/4 Buff Orp, and 1/2 Blue Splash Orp can look like at 8 weeks.
IF I can make a project look okay you can too!! I now have seen the project lite.
Count me into projecting!
evolution of a bad idea gone good.

It sure sounds like one and the same to me:

Up for bid are 10+ lavender orpington eggs from Greenfire Farm's select flock. Greenfire Farms is dedicating to raising some of the rarest and most beautiful poultry in the world. For more information about our breeding programs go to:

www.greenfirefarms.com

Greenfire Farms is offering these lavender orpington eggs to discriminating buyers who want to raise stunning and rare tinted egg layers. We have had a high hatch rate from our birds on the farm although we do not guarantee the viability of these eggs.

We promise to ship you fresh eggs that arrive unbroken. We usually ship extra eggs, but if you do not receive at least as many unbroken eggs as you bid on, notify us within 24 hours after you receive the eggs and we will reimburse you for broken eggs.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the viability of eggs that we ship or the success of your hatch. Fragile embryos are frequently destroyed by rough handling during shipment, and we cannot control incubation conditions for the eggs. We have had customers who have had 100% hatch rates, and we have had customers who have hatched no chicks from a clutch of eggs. Please do not contact us to complain, leave negative feedback, ask for refunds, or ask for free eggs if your hatch is poor. By bidding on these eggs, you assume the risk of loss. If you receive as many unbroken eggs as you ordered, please leave positive feedback.

Assuming the birds are laying well, we will ship the eggs within ten days after the close of the auction. We will ship overnight express mail for a flat fee of $30. We have found express mail tends to reduce the damage to eggs in shipment. It is more expensive than priority mail, but these are rare and valuable eggs and benefit from the faster shipping. We pack the eggs in custom boxes that have been made for Greenfire Farms to better withstand impacts during shipment.

Thanks for your interest and good luck bidding!

Why would you advertise that you ship in someone else's custom made boxes?

The last auction for the Greenfire Lavender Orpingtons ended on Mar 1. Item number 330407763112. There are no new ones listed. The user ID is stoneunhenged and they are located in Havana, Florida. The auction states that they are Greenfirefarm and list their website. If you click on 'other items' they also sell Pumpkim Hulsey, Light sussex and BCM eggs. If it is not actually Green Fire selling the eggs then it is a fraudulent auction and not just someone name dropping. The email I sent from the auction inquiring about their breeding program was replied to from their email address. I went to properties on the reply and checked the details.

Hmmm, this is interesting. Not sure if its my computer but I can't get on their website. I goes to a domain like page. Any one else having trouble?
