Anybody setting eggs this weekend? (4-25-15)

Well, Ruby, all of the eggs I had on Day 23 passed the float test, but all were dead. So it is what it is, it will only indicate a dead egg if the egg has been dead long enough to significantly dehydrate, otherwise, the dead will look no different than the living in the float test.
Did they move in the water???

2 more hatched last night. 4 chicks and 1 to go. One egg was no good! So far, 3 Araucana and 1 Araucana over Crested Cream Legbar hen. Waiting on 1 more Legbar/Araucana hybrid! That is a total of 14 chicks hatched so far this year from broody hens.

Beautiful. well done.
I envy your breed. cream leg bars here are twenty per egg whether they hatch or not and no sexing that way. Auto sex is nice . Will you get that when they are mixed? Where did you get the CLB? Are they just for looks or do they produce well. Their history may not be long enough though. Bravo. long live the chicks

Thank you!!! I love the Legbars but we had bad luck with a few. We lost 2 roosters and 2 hens over the first 8 months. I am not sure but it may have been mareks. So now I have 2 Legbar hens left. I bred them with a Black, Double tufted, Rumpless Araucana Rooster. He is a beauty but he is mean to humans. I am looking for a CLB Rooster to breed with the girls. It does appear that auto sexing traits are noticeable in the cross breed. If that is true, it looks like I have a cockerel. Hopefully that last one to hatch will be a pullet. The dot on the head leads me to think it is a male.

Legbars lay nice blue eggs that are a bit bigger than the Araucanas. My CLB's lay 5 to 6 eggs per week consistently which is a little better than the Araucana. They are a good tempered gentle breed. I highly recommend the Crested Cream Legbar! I bought mine around the Atlanta, GA area when they were less than a month old.

This mixed hybrid is about 4 hours old.

I really think you have 3 males right now. Making up for the last two you lost. Nature is surprising isn't it? Maybe being new breed they are more susceptible to disease? Or maybe it's the breeder.
Anyway, I hope you can start supplying your area with a safe breed. Are they medicated? I put mine on medicated starter once and they turned out real well. Marek's booster is the other way to go for the older ones you might get.
I was wrong about the cockerels it was just the beak spot I was seeing.
I have six more days for the one hen's hatch and a 2.5 weeks for the Chantecler's.

Cheers
Enjoy every minute.
