I'd really like to get some olive eggers... just mentioning that because of the two greens that SweetMotherofMars showed in her pics below. Does the color of the egg dictate what color the layer will be (if it's a hen)?

Idle curiosity gets me in a LOT of trouble.

*edit: I did a little research and think I got it about the genes and necessary breeding to produce olive green eggs... however, the only set for sale right now is on eggbid and at $38 for a dozen and the reserve not yet met, that's unfortunately too rich for my blood.*

Set my 14 Barnevelder eggs on 9/17 at 11:00pm. I am pretty sure two have slight cracks but I am going to give them 7 days and then candle them to see their progress.

Hatch day is October 8th, they are in a Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco with auto turn that I bought from Brinsea as a scratch and dent model for $79.00.

I live 1/2 hour from the Brinsea Titusville, FL HQ.

But it is a first hatch for me and I am a bit worried about the humidity since it is not easy to make an accurate measurement.

9/19 I set 2 bators full..Little giants 1 with fan 1 without...
I have BCM, Olive eggers, silkies, silverlaced wyndottes, and some cuckoo marans..Did the egg swap and hit the jackpot..I also have 10 silkie eggs under a brody...I figure If i get 3 chicks thats good my hatch rate

My son and I set some eggs on Sept. 12th, that we are using for his science fair project. He set 9 eggs that we had stored in the fridge and 9 others that had been stored regularly (room temp on countertop). The eggs are from our flocks of Blue Andalusians and Blue Orpingtons.

This is our first attempt at incubating, using a homemade incubator that my DH just built for us. We also had some issues with the thermostat, but decided to go ahead and see what happens. We've only been able to get it to hold a temp of 95-100 degrees F, but we did see some veining on 10 of the 18 eggs when we candled on Friday night. (Just to be sure, we left all the eggs in the 'bator, in case we simply missed some signs of development that might've been there.)

I wish the deadband range were smaller, of course; but I was told that we should still get a hatch even at the lower temps. We tried to get it to a higher temperature, but the dial is so touchy that we kept overshooting past 102. We finally decided to leave the high of 100 for fear of cooking the eggs.

Anyway, we plan to candle again on Thursday night, and then again on Day 18 (Sept. 30th). That should put our hatch on or around Oct. 3rd, but it could be a bit later due to the lower temps.

Glad to have people to share it with. Good luck to everyone!

I set a whole ton of d'uccles eggs on the 18th! I'm so freaking excited!!

Everyone of them were shipped, so I'm really hoping I get some babies from these. I've not had good luck with shipped chicken eggs. Now guineas, ducks, and especially quail eggs that were shipped hatch just fine, so idk what the deal with chickens is.
I have black and blue mottled, porcelain, and mille fleur d'uccles. Then I also have some of my guinea's eggs due any day, and some duck eggs that were set on the 18th as well. I think that's it

I will be setting eggs tonight or possibly tomorrow. Hoping to have a good hatch of Shelley's chicken eggs and Redhens duck eggs. These are special cause I am finally in my new house and get to keep them.

I set some quail eggs 3 days ago and my hubby is picking up eggs from Shelley (more Quail and some button quail) at the PO on his way home shortly.
