I was starting to get worried about the delayed hatchings, so I candled again. I found that three of the remaining ten eggs had apparantly died shortly after the last candling or so. They weren't nearly as far along in their development and appeared to have "blood rings". I threw them out, but left the other seven that looked "filled up with chick" in the 'bator.
Another Andy egg pipped last night, but the chick is taking its sweet time about hatching. So far, it just clacks its little beak open and closed, although it has somehow managed to widen the pip hole somewhat to form a small window. I just checked on it to make sure it was still breathing and moving, and it seems alright. I don't want to "help" it out unless I'm sure it's really ready. I'd rather let it work at it on its own, but I'll step in if I think it can't make it out without assistance.
While I was in there, I rolled over the other eggs to see if there was any activity... and I found another pipped egg! This is the one I've been waiting for since it's the largest Orp egg we set. (We had another large egg, but it was one of the three that I just had to throw out.) We feel sure it came from Shade because she usually lays the biggest eggs. If so, the chick will be blue, having come from a black hen x splash roo breeding.
I'm not giving up on the other five eggs yet, even though they seem too quiet at the moment. I'm still hoping they are just "late bloomers".
