Egg #5 has a pip! The 4 that have hatched already are wanting out! Pecking at EVERYTHING! Trying to get the brooder at the right temp now. Woo Hoo!!!!

Ok Lori, I dont have a link to provide, but a pip is when you first see a little chip out of the egg shell. It may just be a little crack, but is usually a little trianglur shaped piece of shell that is either missing, or where you see it cracked. A zip is the next step after a pip... this is where the chick enlarges the pip, they generally keep making the pip longer, going around the whole egg, sort of like a zipper looks.

Look at those zips! I don't recall any of my eggs ever having a true zip! Usually they push before the complete zip and it snaps the rest. Hmmm, I'm not really seeing any zips at this point either. Lots of pips, peeps and peeks(on my part) but like my momma always say... a watched pot never boils, wait, she is standing beside me watching...maybe it was her mother that said that- could even be your momma that said it!

I have two eggs pipped now, but am terribly worried as for some reason my Genesis is running 2 full degrees cold and I dont know how to fix it.

oh okay.... I thought a pip was when they start peeping.... how long to they peep before they pip. and how long are the piped before they start to zip??
