Anyone else having problem with Ideal????

I agree with walkingwolf. I went to Ideal wed. to pick up my order. Didn't want peanuts. It was 250 miles round trip but my chicks were in their brooder by 4 oclock the day they hatched. This was my second order from them and i have had nothing but good experiences from them. In fact they sent me off with 2 extra chicks because i came to pick mine up. Hmmm I think that was a favor. LOL I would at least give them another try.

I'd count yourself lucky. We're having a bad winter storm in the southwest, if they had been sent they might not have made it.

This year was a particularly busy year, so yes, many people preordered as early as January for 2009. They then got ahead of the people who didn't decide to order til March. Their flocks lay a certain number of eggs, regardless of demand. Some years it's easy to fill orders or they have too many unsold birds.

This year all the way back in January it looked like get your orders in cuz this year is going to be high demand.

So no, if you are behind the curve you can't just call up and expect them to have them. I didn't preorder for Sandhillpreservation and they sold EVERY chick in the breeds I wanted that they planned to sell to the public this year on pre-order. I lose. If I want their birds I need to save up and pre-order for next year.

It's that way with many of the hatcheries.

As to dropping the ball and freaking the OP out - that's just wrong and it's never happened to me and I'm REALLY sorry it happened to you. Ideal has never changed a thing that they didn't immediately notify me.

I think mistakes happen at most hatcheries. I had to wait past two failed hatches of one order myself. But they did tell me, if th ey hadn't I would have been seriously ticked.

People are human and can be idiots anywhere. I hope they get their ___ together and apologize.

Howdy,

First of all, I would like to say that we are sorry for moving you order. We try our hardest to keep hatch dates. As for the lack of communication, we call and email (if provided) before we move orders. If we cannot get a hold of a customer, we try not to ship for the birds safety. We do not want to send birds when we cannot reach their future owners. Our birds are very important, and we value their life to much to send without knowing they will be safe. I encourage you to try Ideal Poultry again, and please give us your email with at least 2 phone numbers. We can even take a fax number. We do not sell our email addresses or phone numbers. Your information is kept private and only used to inform you of specials and changes in your order. I hope you understand, and I would be willing to talk more about this issue. Feel free to call me at 800-243-3257 ext. 5411.

I'm waiting on an order from Ideal. It shipped on the 25th, and it was supposed to arrive today. The post office said the express truck didn't come today. I still have hope for a late truck.

I called Ideal and they assured me the chicks would be okay if they arrive tomorrow. I'm so disappointed though! I had the brooder warming up in anticipation! I've been waiting since we built the coop last fall...my first chicks! I'm a teacher, and this is the END of my spring break! Ideal has been great along the way with all my questions!

All of my chicks have come from Ideal alive and healthy except one chick. One died shortly after I got it but it was sick when I got it and one was susposed to be a pullet and turned out to be a Roo.

We have ordered with our local feed store from Ideal for the last 2 years. Big chicks, Bantams, Ducks and Geese. All have arrived when expected and never lost one. But we order with the feed store as we are so rural ad not comfortable trusting our tiny post office. I know he goes and picks them up early and calls me. I have been very pleased ad am already working on an order for next year and will be placing it EARLY!!!
