Southern IL
I absolutely adore hostas. They are a relatively easy perennial and they of course, like the shade, my favorite place to be on a hot day.
I dont know if you are any where close to southern Illinois, but on sunday, may 6th, we are having an open house to feature our hosta garden. My husband and I will be playing in the yard all day no matter what, but if you would like to see a collection of over 550 hostas give me a PM. We are also right on the shawnee wine trail for southern Illinois. Lots of stuff to do in southern Illinois and it is just beautiful this time of year.
I also collect coral bells (heucheras) and other shade plants. I group the hostas into theme beds by their names, like the sun, moon and stars,; creature theme; Name bed; Places and locations; Religious; Oriental and species bed, etc.
And of course, we can talk chickens too.

Beautiful! If only I was closer. I hope your open house is a great success! I have many shady areas around too, and I was wondering what that beautiful white flowering plant is in your pic?

I love hostas! I just got a new patio poured, and I am considering lining it in hostas. I was going to run a single-cultivar "hedge" around it, but I might make a wider bed and drop in a variety of leaves along with bulbs and other stuff. Too many people around here plant monotonous rows of boring shrubs, and nobody knows how to trim them properly. A hosta hedge would be infinately more interesting, but a bigger hosta garden surrounding my patio will be better yet!

Here is another shot this morning. This is in the "name theme bed" and has some of my oldest hostas. The big glue pointy wavy one is "Elvis Lives" and is a good three feet across. Next to it on the right is captain Kirk. To its left is the best hosta ever introduced, "June". In front of June is alvatine Taylor, an oldie but a goodie. The lower right corner is "Slick Willy". He is getting too big for his space so he might get moved to the "naughty themed" bed.

that is beautiful. i used to have hostas in georgia. i live in puerto Rico now and i dont think they Will do well here. you have a lovely hostas garden.

Here is an updated shot of the corner of the Oriental themed bed. It has a Buddha statue. My 3 year old grandson helped me move and stack rocks the other day. The rock on top of the rock in front of Buddha has an indent that collects water. You often find butterflies resting there.

I am a rock nut. I collect them. I buy them. I have tons of them in my yard. Here is a rock sitting area, or stonehenge as my DH calls it. There is a nice Beni Kawa maple in the corner of the pic too. This is right next to the Religious theme garden and the Oriental themed garden. This has 2 tons of rock in the benches and tables and only cost 600 bucks a couple of years ago, with labor. I will never have to buy outdoor furniture for that area again. See how I justify my expenditures?

Very very nice. I have hostas here that are over 50 years old. We just divided a few for the landscaping around the chicken run. I love the "Elvis" one. I have never seen that variety before. Have a great open house.
