Anyone else setting eggs this weekend? 8-3-12?

I have a PIP! It is the one Jersey Giant egg in my mixed batch of chicks...I am super excited. I don't have a GJ in my flock.

I was duped. My Ameracuana chicks are not Ameracuana chicks. All mixed.

All 5 hatched, 1 died and 1 is blind.

Here are the 3 healthy ones.

The blind one is off by the stuffed animal.

I need to clarify that I bought these online from another site. I did not buy these eggs from BYC.

Well four out of the nine that actually hatched have died & one has a foot problem, so this has been heartbreaking to say the least.

Oh my everyone..this is just a sad morning on this thread. Between chicks not being what they should be and not being healthy and some dying. It is just sad...hope today there is some change for this.

Hugs for you all who have been having problems.

However, yesterday I was out of town all day...got home around 8:30 and that is when I first saw the pip. I was super excited, but had no idea when it made the pip. My husband had not even thought to look at the eggs when he got home from work at 5. So at around 11pm I looked in on it and it really had not changed in shape and no sign of zipping. This morning now at 6am it basically just looks the same. So I am hoping it is just in there absorbing yolk and chilling until it has the strength to zip. I have had chicks pip and die in the shell before so this makes me a bit nervous. Fingers crossed.

My 4 newborns are doing well, even the blind one. I won't be keeping any of these. They are not what I expected or showable.

Maybe I'll have better luck with my remaining eggs. I think another one is going bad and will be another quitter. We'll see.

I'll start over next spring if this is a bust. I'd like to have at least 3-4 showing Ameracuana's for the kids. I might need to order live chicks through ABC though. We'll see.

It is so frustrating to not get what you paid for. I hope you can contact the seller or the site you bought them from and get your money back.

I spent a lot of money on Cream Legbar eggs only to have them all come out looking only vaguely like CL. Seems that seller has something else in with her hens or her stock is just bad. Anyway, I have a whole lot of them that are going to have to be culled. It makes me quite angry and sad. I have also had a hard time hatching FBCM and finally made arrangements to have day old chicks shipped. In fact, they are shipping on Monday so they can be in the brooder with any that hatch in my incubator.

Oh...this might seem like a silly question, but how do you know one is blind? I have never had a blind chick and would like to know how you noticed or if it looks different or what?

And I just went and checked my egg that has pipped and it is getting bigger...might be starting to zip.
