Anyone ever fake injured to see what your dog will do?

I had an ACD that I trained to be a "steady" dog, i have bad knees so getting up from the floor or yard can be a little hard.
I got the idea from a dog trainer who taught her large sheltie to do it.. The dog sits or stands but is squared up, and you put your hand on their shoulder blades on their back. YOu teach them to brace as you use them as a
lever/platform to help you get up when on your knees or sitting.
I have trained my Sharpei/lab mix to do this as she is a good sized medium dog.
I fake an injury all the time, especially in winter with my old ACD and she was hilarious.. she would come and sit ON my head.. apparently that was the most important thing..

Yeah DH decided to try that with Jax one time, to gauge his reaction. He opened the front door, that leads to the screened porch, and hollered "Booger!" (our word for a bad guy). We no longer have a screened door, broke in two when Jax hit it...and he was still a pup at the time.

A few months ago DH's cousin and her husband stopped by for a brief visit. We put the dogs in their crates as we always do when visitors initially arrive. Introduced Kane to them first. He was friendly, but deliberately kept himself between myself and them, without being obtrusive about it. Kane's sire behaves exactly like this with his master. Then DH brought Jax out. The cousins both needed to visit the potty, so they were in our dark hallway when DH brought Jax out. Jax was most definitely not friendly. We later thought about it from Jax's point of view. Dad brings him out to see strangers in the house and they are "cornered" in the hallway. Jax undoubtably thought that Dad had trapped two boogers in the house and he was gonna back Dad up.

"Booger"--how funny!!

My Belgian Malinois is extremely friendly- to everyone--to the point of being goofy! She is ridiculously loving to us and definitely has a sense of humor. But if a hand is raised toward me or someone comes to the house she has a crazy scary bark and growl. She is always watchful and easily trained. She is a wonderful dog and if I am still in good shape as I get older I would get another Malinois. They do take a a lot of exercise mentally and physically but if you can do it they are truly worth it.

My Doberman who is gone now 4 years was a remarkable protector. I never taught her but she always put herself between me and anyone else (other than my hubby as she loved him too). All guests MUST be introduced in to before entering the house. One time we had roofers putting a new roof on the house and I explicity told them to NOT go in the yard unless they tell me first so I could close the patio door. Well of course they didn't and I heard an awful guttural deep growl and when I ran out in the yard she had all 3 roofers lined up next to the fence. They all stood perfectly still and she meant for them to do so! I went out and repeated how important it is to tell me before coming in the yard! God, I miss her:(

It's been proven that humans should pay attention when their dogs are acting strangely in front of them, such as frantic barking for no apparent reason or stopping and refusing to follow. They might be telling you that you are ready to have a stroke or heart attack, and that's the only way they have to tell you.

I'm going to have to try this when I get home. This is what I think will happen:

The lab - nudge and paw and then go get someone
The mutt - lick hands and lay down
The cats - tickle me with their whiskers and lay down next to me
The akita - step on me as she makes her way to my seat on the couch, eat my food and take a nap

That his hilarious! OMG! I have GOT to ask hubby to see what Porche does. She's not much of a rescuer I would think... as she's part lab and part weiner dog. She's pretty useless other then digging up my yard for moles.

If it were a cat... they'd eat you for survival!!!

My dog pulls my hair and nips my arms, the others just lay there.....So I dont do that very often

I did it one time to Mozart and JoJo my Great Pyrs,, Mozie man wasn't sure what to do with the unconscious lump of me on the ground so he tried to drag me to the gate and JoJo howled like a banshee until my mom came out to see what was up.

One of my horses would love to run from me, so I decided to lay down on the ground and "play dead" to see if he would come up to me and I could grab his halter. I laid there, felt him walk up and start sniffing me, he pushed my butt with his nose and I was hoping he would come up towards my shoulder so I grab him. Getting no response from me he picked up his hoof and whacked the heck out of my behind. I never did that again, getting spanked by a 16.5 hand Quarter horse was not fun.

I suffer from low blood sugar... when ever I am out with the animals and my sugar starts dropping or if I am feeling ill, my 2 male GPs will stand on either side of me the whole time I am out there.

My blue heeler/springer spaniel mix, thinks she is my 24/7 body gaurd. She tries to pull me back to the house when it is to cold and windy outside, like I wouldn't be able to find the way with out her, and don't even think of pretend hitting me or one of my kids! She goes beserk even if it is my husband doing the fake attacking, and she loves him.

As far as me faking sick, she just does the typical licking like a maniac, trying to get to my face, and standing over the top of me barking her head off. As soon as I make a noise or laugh she pounces on me with her front paws, like a doggy version of a punch in the arm saying "hey don't do that you scared me!"
