anyone hatching July 1?

I'm hoping to stick a few eggs in the incubator next Monday, if I have enough eggs. I've only got 3 now and would like another 4. My hen hasn't laid any the past 2 days so we'll see. I'd love it if she'd go broody and hatch them herself!

Good luck to you also!

I just stuck eggs under my broody black australorp "Applejack" This will be both of our first hatching! She is the sweetest broody hen ever! I hope she is a good mom! Wish us luck and if I can do math we should have July 4th babies!

Hey guys, how are your hatches going? Last night we got home late, almost dark, and when I checked for eggs, there was a broken one under Olive. I freaked out, thinking it was one of the fertile eggs, picked the chicken up out of the nest box, scooped all the eggs out, cleaned up the mess before the chickens started to. The broken one was NOT one of her fertile eggs, but it proved to me that it's time for her to have her own living quarters. Everyone seems to think they need to contribute to her clutch and lay in that same nest box. I'm sure the egg broke while they were sorting that out. I tucked all the fertile eggs back into the cleaned nest, sat Olive near it (not on it, didn't need to break any more!), and barricaded her in by herself. Now she's got her own 'apartment', and enough room to raise her babies without any nosy neighbors causing a fuss. I was really hoping to let everyone coexist, and was hoping she'd be able to raise the babies in general population, but my nerves can't take the thought of one of those eggs being broken when I could so easily prevent it. Last year, a similar thing happened and 2 of the fertile eggs got broken and immediately devoured. And they were indeed developing. I felt terrible. I know it's part of the game, but it's also in my power to prevent it. So this will be the second broody who's had private living arrangements... anyway, she's still got 8 eggs under there, and I hope to candle a couple tonight. Hope things are going well for the rest of you!
