Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

I had guineas years ago, free range (for tick control). When they'd go broody, I could never find them, and didn't know if they were still alive until they reappeared, either on an occasional break or after about a month of attempted incubation. In fact, I would only rarely find the nests when none were broody and by then there'd be a mountain of eggs from 6 girls, and I didn't know which would be okay to eat. When I did discover a nest, I was always surprised that it was right there so close, under a bush, or in the weeds...

Ok, sorry for not updating. We were prepping for the hurricane and desperately trying to locate nests! And we have family visiting. So there's that's...

Anywho... updates... no hen yet, but I'm checking the cam this evening for the first time in a couple days.

I woke up this morning and Mr. Squatch has decided that life in the pokey is not for him and has escaped quarantine and has found a new family amongst my other bantams.

I'm not too worried, has technically been in contact with them already and no one has dropped dead. Yet.

One of the bantam pullets has taken up with him and so she may become the new Mrs.

All 3 roosters are getting along surprisingly well. So far.

My CCL rooster, Reggie, is NOT cool with all the new little guys trying to romance his girls.

Mr. Squatch tried tidbitting to a huge cuckoo Marans hen this morning and she just bounded on top of him in true donkey-kong fashion. It was kind of amusing.

Probably a dumb question, as I know it's most likely possible genetics-wise, as they are the same species, but physically, can a tiny bantam rooster breed large fowl?

I will update once I check the camera.

I had been worried a bit that the wild squatches were holding you hostage.

From my understanding he could make babies with the big girls. That would sure be something! Tiny birds that lay really dark eggs...... Sounds like a project in the making.....

it is possible but not probable ..
The equipment does not quite line up .
Ive watched my spitz who is a medium breed try to mate with my huge RIR..
He doesnt quite make it ..but that doesnt stop him from trying

I don't know... I got an accidental Svart Hona Bantam Cochin cross. I would hate to think it was a big rooster on a little hen.
I've heard Bantam roosters are tenacious. If he tries enough it will eventually work. LOL
