I'm sad/angry but not surprised that there are more "feral" chicken findings now. Seems like spring/summer chicks have grown out & people are trying to get rid of extra unwanted cockerels before winter sets in. I see a ton of postings on Craigslist for free cockerels.Well for those who want to follow the lady catching her new found chickens, here's the thread
I can't believe how many people in the last few weeks have "found" stray chickens.
We had legendary feral chickens when I was living in Kew Gardens section of Queens NYC. Only 3 that I ever saw but they were just free ranging along the neighborhood. Story was that some family left them behind when they moved away & they just found a way to survived.I know it happens but except for a long time ago when I lived on the Eastern shore of Maryland near the Purdue plant, and occasionally a few would escape from the trucks, I've never witnessed a chicken "in the wild"!
@21hens-inchargeWell my chicken peeps.... Many of you will remember that my sons dog had dental surgery last Wednesday.... With many biopsies sent to the lab.
Lab work is back and the news is the worst possible. Malignant cancer with a few months at best. He won't eat so I do not think we have months.... More like a few days to a few weeks.
If I seem a bit off or ghost for a while I am sure you all will understand.
X2 !!We're popular because of our fashion sense *nods wisely*
Jackie just started to squat a week ago so I thought it would be another week or two. I worked yesterday and then was out after work, didn't get home until after dark. I have a light on in the coop until 8, so went out to "visit" for a few minutes. I have a folding chair that hangs in the coop so I can sit while I visit. Just glanced at the nest box and saw 3 eggs, 2 fake and my beautiful egg. What a surprise!!!!
X2 !!

Anyone know of a good Ameraucana/ EE hat pattern?
I love the folding chair idea. I might have to get one for my daughter to use this winter. She's always in there accosting the poor chickens.Jackie just started to squat a week ago so I thought it would be another week or two. Another thing I don't want my daughter to see! They're very cute, but she'll want one and I don't have the skillz for that.X2 !!

Too funny. That would probably work w/ peckx3's hats, just add the beard part and leave off the mustache. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with.Anyone know of a good Ameraucana/ EE hat pattern?
The closest I could find was to adapt something like this:
