Anyone in WV???

Hi Everyone!
I am in Amma, WV, about 25 miles NE of Charleston. I have had chickens for about a year now, and wow we have predators here! We finally bought a game camera, and then raccoon traps to try to keep our birds alive. A malfunctioning chicken house door on a timer also caused some problems. I am currently looking for a rooster and a broody hen if anyone is thinning their flock. I am glad to see so many mountaineers on this thread!

Welcome!

I have a bunch of spare blue and black Cochin Cockerels that are about 6 months old. I don't haven any broody hens to sell, I like to keep them. The nice thing about Cochins is they are a broody breed. If you hatch some of the eggs from a Cochin rooster you should get some pullets that will go broody.

I'm about 90 miles north of Charleston.

Hi! And welcome!
I’m way up in Parkersburg, but come to Ripley regularly. I have quite a few bantam cochins and seramas right now, but no large fowl. As @Redhead Rae said, cochins are quite broody, I have 4 sitting in one nest box together at the moment, and tons of chicks already running around. :th

Raccoons are a major nuisance here too, and possums and hawks too! The coons used to come into my duck pen and eat their feed but not bother the ducks. But I have traps out all the time anyway.

Welcome! I am in Fairmont!

Hello! I am in eastern Kanawha County, walking distance to Riverside High School at Diamond. I have a Rhode Island Red cockerel, two Golden Comet pullets, a Plymouth Rock (I think) cockerel, and two female Pekin ducks.

I'd love to rehome the Rhode Island. He needs his own harem.

My pullets have been laying for about six weeks or so. One of the Pekins started laying three days ago.

I'm flying by the seat of my pants with these guys and girls.

Haven't been on here in a very long time but was wondering if there are any other WV folks here. I live between Huntington and Charleston WV. Close to the KY< OH area.

Looking for other chicken folks to chat with. I am now down to 5 chickens. Thanks to various varmits on our farm--- that we know of- 3 bobcats which were eliminated last summer. (one was in the chicken house when found) scared the husband pretty bad. lots of raccoons, possums, and 1 coyote (that was also eliminated) came out about 20 yards from the front door. Boy they are scary looking animals. I had an original flock of 42 and had kept adding on. Even building another coop and run just for silkies. (had about 26 silkies that disappeared due to predators, they only left a few feathers. Still not sure how or what got them.

Now since we are down to 5 my husband has asked that I not get anymore until I finish Nursing school in 2008. So I guess the spring of 2009 I will add to my 5 little hens.

Look forward to getting to chat with the folks on this board. I have learned alot on here. And read some great info and stories.

I even got eggs last years from KY silkies that hatched out some of the most beautiful birds. I think I got 18 chicks out of 22 eggs.
That was thanks to this board.
