Love the new cakes.

Anyone have a great whipped frosting recipe? HyVee grocery store has a great one and I have tried and tried many recipes and never gotten it to work.

ok so here is the first time I have worked with fondant. It's not very good at all, but to my credit, it was iced and the fondant cut out right before the party, so i was a mess trying to get it done. The cake is iced with whipped butter cream from the store. This is also the first time I have iced a cake and not dragged crumbs everywhere. I'm not sure that cake decorating is my thing.

The best thing about this cake is that my 10 year old loved it!!

Heather, it looks like you and I have a lot in common! I followed your link and see that you also write.

I have written a book but haven't gotten around to sending it in anywhere yet. It's fantasy. Have you ever been to authonomy.com? I had my book up there for a while and got a lot of crits from other writers and read a lot of interesting works in progress.

and I decorate cakes and love my chickens as well

I need to try to do a pillow cake sometime, too. I just haven't had any reason to do one yet.

Actually, the white version (which even though it didn't have coconut extract--just coconut milk, tasted more coconut-y) was Paula Deen's recipe on recipezaar.

The chocolate layer was the White Almond Scour Cream cake in which I put coconut milk instead of water, and coconut extract in place of the almond, and used 9 Tblsp of cocoa. I liked the recipe fine with a chocolate cake mix, (it calls for a boxed mix and then added ingredients), but if you have access to a "Make a Mix" cook book, the cake recipe (I use 3 1/3 cups in place of the boxed mix ) is SOOO much better!

the WASC is also on recipezaar. It makes a nice, dense cake for decorating with a good texture and awesome flavor.

LaSombra: Fantasy (especially YA fantasy) is selling gang busters right now. If you send me your first three chapters (30 pages max), I'd be happy to look it over for you and give you feedback. I love to help out other writers!

Well, mine isn't YA. It has some adult content, violence, sex, stuff like that, but yep, fantasy. It's my favorite genre

I'm also a fan of good romance like LaVyrle Spencer (my favorite), and comedy like the Stephanie Plum mysteries by Evanovich. Where do you want me to send an excerpt? I'd love to have your opinion

Thanks!
