They use fear tactics to keep that control, they use fear to continue to feed their greedy, and they use fear and violence to remain in power.

Yet again, I shudder to think of such a "loving" God that he allows his "children" to suffer horrible disease, starvation, violence, etc. I also can't conceive of "loving" somebody so much that I would cast them into a lake of fire to burn for all eternity because they were asked to blindly have faith in a "book" that nobody really knows the origins of or the actual "truth" of that book. The Old Testament is just chock full the most disgusting crap I have ever read in my life. I personally prefer to do without that kind of "love."

Wow you really carry the weight of the OT, Thank goodness for the NT..And I believe that God doesnt make bad things happen. Satan is at work too. God can however try to draw people near him throught those bad things.

justuschickens, I'm totally with you. That's why I say religion is like a corporation. And, like any corporation that sends its salespeople door-to-door, you can just shut the door if they really aren't hearing you say, no thanks. That's my plan here on this thread. I don't have to engage in conversations that aren't going anywhere.
The Christian scriptures make it very clear that God does not change. He is the same, today, yesterday and in the future. So the same God that ordered children killed in the Old Testament still exists today or at least he does if you believe that the bible is true.

I believe the Old Testament has chock full of holes and sometimes the stories do not add up. However there are good parts in there, like the Ten Commandments which it does apply not only to Christians but to non Christians as well.
Who decided to eliminate the parts of the "Lost Books"? Simply because the Bible itself was too long for them to hand create by bulk, those publishers decided to pick out the best ones and dump the rest of it. If it was an oral history, how in the world anyone could memorize word for word for a century before it was written on paper??? Remember those high school/college classes on communication and how we had to stand in a circle, a teacher will start off the sentence or two about something and the students would pass down the messages until the last person tells the sentence that was way off from the original sentence???? I think it was changed around as time went on before it was written on paper. I honestly think it was not the original story to it, there's more to it.
It would be interesting to read the Dead Seas Scrolls or the "Lost Books" and see why the original writers needed to eliminate it.
Did Luke, Matthew, John and the rest of his disciples actually wrote the verses in the Bible? I dont know and there were no surviving documentations from them like we have some evidence of the Egyptian papyrus writings surviving but barely. Surely the Egyptian would have wrote someone like Moses in their books or tombs because the way Moses led the slaves out of Egypt and it would make a good story and a tipping point or a fatal blow to one Egyptian king who had to let the slaves go and how it would affect his kingdom.
Why did the writers of the Bible leave out Jesus' traveling into the desert???? It does not make sense why there is something to "hide" about, it could be the theory, he might have ran off to get married, start a family?, or need to travel to find "himself" or see what's out there beyond the Middle East. How did he gain that much knowledge? Did he met someone that carried some power of thinking to start lecturing to the masses?
I agree that the women were treated as second class citizens and in some countries nowadays, they are treated as such. I had to laugh about parts about women and their cycles and how bad could that be and it is human nature of things that women cycle (as well as all species of animals). I do not consider cycles as "filthy" or "unclean" unless one would forego cleaning which that would be downright nasty. Like someone said in here, science was very primitive and they didn't know about how human bodies work. Sorry I do not believe the part of when God created pain for Eve and all the future women childbirth pains to remember her sins...........the uterus is a muscle, to expland, to contract and to expel, it causes pain and normal reaction to a muscle. No different than having muscle leg pain due to over extending wear, or due to depleating of vitamins and minerals while working or sick, medical issues, etc. The Bible writers were very vague or ignorance in women's biological functions.

Many other books in the Bible have also been removed and/or omitted --- sure makes you wonder what was in them and why they weren't included. If they were part of "God's word" than they should be included. Again, there's that pesky little thing that Christianity likes to do----pick and choose the parts that are convenient. Personally, while I detest the Old Testament, I would have much more respect for the Christian religion if they subscribed to ALL parts of the Bible, even the Old Testament and bad parts instead of trying to explain away and just gloss over the parts they don't particularly care for.

Immediate concequences. today=grace we have choices. and thank you for writing this it was a reminder that do I do not consider myself a Christian(as explained in past post), I do follow Christian scripture. So lets all be careful how we label people. what I mean by that is dont refer to someone how they do not refer to themselves. I am a believer, but not a Christian. I follow God, but not organized religion, its a personal walk not organized.
