Anyone on here make stuff out of spun glass???

Yes! That's exactly what I'm talking about! Goggles are a must, though, Nifty! What are the rods called, the 'official' name? Did you just use a regular torch, cause that's what I was gonna use...I don't have a high powered propane torch, so I was gonna use one of the little ones.

They're called lampworking/beadmaking rods, but I don't know if they'd work for making spun glass stuff....

Wow, those look cool!

I used all clear tubes (no color added) and then used glass stain at the end.

The nice thing about getting them from a chemistry supply place is that they had many different sizes (diameters) some very very tiny, but fun to work with. I had some that was really thick and didn't use it much because it was too hard to heat up.

A lot of my favorite glass rods were the hollow ones. What's cool is the hollow ones allowed me to close off one end and heat the middle and blow the glass, that is what I did to make the swan's head at the back left of the pic.

If I were doing it all over again I'd use goggles FOR SURE and probably setup a small acetylene / oxygen system to get a better burn / hotter flame. But propane with a pencil tip worked really well for what I needed.

BTW, I use to spell out my girlfriend's names (whomever it was at the time) in glass and have a glass heart and/or rose set behind it. It worked perfectly until my wife found the pics on my computer and realized hers was just one of a long line of glass gifts.

Glass is cool (actually, quite hot) stuff to work with. The glass blowing/working that I did in college was strictly scientific equipment making tho. I still found time to create some great drink stirs and lovely blown christmas ornaments.

I bet your local art council would have some good resources for you, and if not, Nifty can come teach you!
