Anyone Setting Eggs Tonight 3/31/2011 - Come join me if you like!

Not sure about the thermometer issues, but for candling, I usually candle from the side or later on I shine the light into the air cell so that I can see better. I take one out, candle it, then put it right back.

My temp had held great for the last 3 days. Then I put my eggs in yesterday and my temp dipped in the night??? It only dipped to 97 and I don't know how long, but still. Now I have towels on it too, hopefully that will keep it more stable tonight.

My temps are holding between 99.3 and 99.8! I am really thrilled since we use wood heat and it can be a problem with using an incubator. I can hardly wait till they hatch and crossing my fingers that my eggs and everyone else's eggs hatch REALLY WELL!

Our three little quail gave us our first tiny quail egg this morning YAY!

I think that you will get a slight change in temp. and humidity after you first put the eggs in. They have to warm up and take the heat and humidity down a bit befor it adjusts itself,no more than an hr. or so though.
Think-- I'm a moma chicken and I'm trying to get everything just perfect !

the different temps and humidity on different thermometers just about drives me crazy so i just keep one, so i'm sorry i don't know why temps differ like that

as long as the temp didn't stay 102 for too long, they should be alright...my bator does that all the time, i'm glad i don't have an outside job or else i don't know how i'd ever be able to incubate because i'm constantly on top of this bator like an old worried nelly....

i candle from the air cell because i can never really figure out what i'm looking at - i'm still learning about everything, especially candling..but it's easier for me to see movement when i shine the light at the air cell

i read on here that as long as the eggs are not out of the bator for more than 15-20 minutes you should be okay candling...besides, mother hen doesn't sit on her eggs 24/7 - she does get up to eat, drink and stretch her legs...i even watched my dove when she sat on her first clutch she'd have the eggs under her for a long time but then she'd scoot out of their way so she wasn't sitting on them anymore for at least 30 minutes then she'd scoop them up under her again...

my temp and humidity are now holding nicely - must be the nice weather we had today - we got into the 60's today...hopefully the weather stays warm and i won't have to worry too much

oh how exciting for you!!! i owned quail years ago and have been wanting to get some but lost out on a local breeder in our area that posted on craigslist so i think i might just have to buy some eggs and hatch them myself...there's a site that sells 24 hatching eggs for 30 bucks and some change with free shipping! i don't have another bator but if i did, i sure would get it now.

Somehow I missed this post. I was a little early but count me in. Set mine at 9:00 P.M. Central Wednesday the 30th. This is my first hatch ever and it is 12 of my eggs under a broody. Does that count.

Lol....Its like we are the same person! I have all the same ones you have and almost all the same readings. My digital one with the wired sensor reads the lowest at 97 degrees on top of a egg. My LG one that came with my incuabtor reads almost 102 and the one that came with my turner reads at 98. I have a wireless one that stayed around 98-99 and one that melted so I had to remove it. My humidity is at 37% but I think thats okay till day 18. Could be wrong. I am going to try for a dry hatch. I wish I would have NEVER bought any other thermometers or even used both of the LG' ones at the same time because its driving me nuts.

I to am also glad I dont have a 9-5 job otherwise this would simply not be possible. To time consuming and way to much room for error in something that seems to be so simple. I mean grade school kids do this, So why am I have such a hard time? I am seconds away from just randomly selecting a thremometer and tossing all the rest and crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

the more the merrier!! and no sweeter pic than a hen with her brood so i can't wait to see the hatch!

I decided at the beginning of this hatch that I would either (1) drive myself crazy with worry and second-guessing (which is my true nature!), or (2) follow the instructions on the incubator and let it go. So far I've managed to avoid obsessing too much, but that may come! Of course this is my first hatch, and if I end up totally botching it I will revert to (1) above....

Here's hoping for happy chicks!
